Avi Solomon: Hershel for Township Committee

Nov 21 2009 6:38 pm

Herschel Downtown_wmI am discouraged and disappointed to hear that as of now no one in Lakewood has expressed a desire to run against Senator/Mayor Bob Singer who has to run for re-election to retain his Township Committee seat. Granted, it is early so I still have hope that a viable candidate will arise to run against Singer for this upcoming election. I would personally like to see Dudi Birnbaum make a bid for the seat. Dudi is well known and liked in Lakewood. He has a great head on his shoulders and understands the average-Joe. However, he has informed me that he has no intention of running. Therefore, my hope is that Hershel Herkowitz will run against Bob Singer in 2010.

Hershel is a man who has passion for reforming Lakewood and isn’t afraid to do it. He wasn’t afraid to confront the illegal immigration problem in the downtown area and I have no doubt that he will face all of Lakewood’s problems with such boldness if elected. Hershel, I hope you will run for Township Committee this upcoming year and if so you have my vote.

Avi Solomon.

April before Novenber. First clean-out the Board of Education. On the Town you’re at best talking about inefficiency. At the BOE we need to clean out corruption costing 10s of $Millions. Anyone running???

Bob is a strategic asset in Trenton. It would be extremely short-sighted to unseat him – we’d be exchanging an advocate for an enemy.

Thank you Avi Solomon. It is very nice to see that someone appreciates what the downtown commission is trying to accomplish. As for township committee,I could not agree more,Dudi Birnbaum would be an impartial ,honest, and fair representative, for all the good people of Lakewood.

solomon is highly qualified to do what he does, but in hashkafa and politics all he knows is what he understands from listening to rush.

Bob Singer helped Lakewood quite a bit in the past. He is much more fit for the job than Hershel is.

I can’t imagine herschel is in the least bit interested in sitting up there with those guys. It would be very uncomfortable for everyone. He gets more done this way. He doesn’t need the kovod. Or does he?

Love Bob or hate him, he is one of the more senior state Senators. He makes many good things happen for the every group that calls Lakewood home. Push him out the door on a local or state level (which isn’t going to happen -He’ll retire when he’s ready) and the Double Golden Goose that’s laying a lot of golden eggs around Lakewood is GONE- kiss it all good bye. He’s provided funding for countless projects and groups because of his seniority in the Trenton.
Kick him to the curb- but don’t complain when the well runs dry.
Every body in the state would be watching and laughing because all that money he brings in would be theirs for the taking. On a local level you have enough votes to get what you want – on the state level think twice. People outside of Lakewood want your funding and as long as Bob’s in Trenton your safe- when he’s gone all you have is a tail gate warranty -they hate us behind our backs- votes or no votes- you’ll get crumbs.

Bob, keep up the good work.

The last few comments say Bob Singer provided funding for many projects. How about enumerating? Tell us what programs or grants he brought to Lakewood?

  • out of control says:
    November 22, 2009 at 2:03 am

you people are out of control. If it’s taxes you are concerned about why don’t you start with the board of ed? OVER HALF OUR TAX DOLLARS ARE CONTROLLED BY ONE MAN. do you understand the meaning of that? Nothing can be done about tax relief until the board of ed is cleaned out.

Can you please state clearly what Bob Singers is doing wrong that Herschel would fix ?
Yes Herschel is a wonderful person , but if it is not broken , don’t fix it. The only things that I can think of that the township is handling wrong is illegals and taxes. As far as illegals, there is not much they can do here because much of the problems stem from federal or state laws. The township tried different ploys to clean them up but unfortunatly met stiff resistance from theose who profit from them.I’m sure if herschel had a solid plan how to clean up the “illegals ” problem they would be more than happy to comply. But just to float wild ideas won’t work even if he compansionate about them. As far as taxes 55-60 of the tax burden goes to the public school. Cleaning up the dirt and corruption there is the best thing anyone can do now. If he wants to do something for the tzibbur he should run to be on the BOE so we can clean out the mess that is there now.

  • hymie himmelstein says:
    November 22, 2009 at 9:58 am

He will get nothing done if there are four or three guys voting against him all the time.he should get on the boe make trouble. Or take over the uez and ldc stop wasting all that money for nothing.
    Keep up the momentum hesh.

  • taxes says:
    November 22, 2009 at 10:06 am

to all those that commented about taxes its closer to 60 percent for board of ed that means all other departments combined are about 40 percent if you want to cut start from the biggest part of the pie and by the way next years increase in taxes will be largest lakewood increase in recent years

  • what is Bob doing wrong? says:
    November 22, 2009 at 11:27 am

No different than the other Commiteemen. Aproving the BOE budget with cosmetic changes after the voters overwhelmingly reject it. They just don’t “get it”.

Percal for BOE. Dudi for BOE. Herschel for BOE. Anyone else? 4 seats are up. This is the year to solve Lakewood’s worst problem.

  • Dark Soul says:

    He said Dudi…….

  • Anonymous says:

There’s not a whole lot the Committee can due re: the school budget. If they reject it, it goes to the state. The state will ratify it without question. The buck has to stop at the BoE.

  • Yeedel says:
    November 22, 2009 at 8:31 pm

Can we get Rabbonim to run for the BOE? I think that RSBC would be a great candidate. And Rabbi Gissinger too.

  • Junior says:

I say we get some seniors onto the Board of Ed. That will really clean it up :-)
