Hundreds At BMG Sign Petition Against The Vaad

Open Letter to the Vaad Signed_0001_wm(Click on images to enlarge). Attached is one of the several signed pages of a petition which was placed in various locations in BMG today. The petition is an open letter to the Lakewood Vaad requesting they withdraw their endorsement of Corzine. Also attached, is the letter which many claim is a double standard by BMG and the Vaad. The letter-also hanging in BMG-opposing To’aiva marriage, was signed by many Gedolim including the BMG Roshei Hayeshivah. TLS spoke with many Yungerleit who have given similar answers for their opposition, saying “ you either disapprove of To’aiva rights or you don’t”. “You can’t pick and choose”. Please note: TLS does not endorse either candidate at this time. Open letter to vaad_wmKolkorah against ss marriage_wm

Anyone concerned about the ציבור or their high taxes in Lakewood should stay away from the voting booth and DON”T VOTE.

Please tell me what dass torah is . Who invented this term . I have heard of DAAS and of Torah . who tied the two together? Stick to plain simple dass. Hashem gave you dass, so use it . We say every day *ata chonen leadam DASS. . nowhere does it say dass torah.

    Hi guys,

While I was at the seder looks like I missed a lot of action here…So..If Anon’s account is true that Rav Steinman paskened that one is allowed to vote for Jon Corzine, are you still not going to vote for Corzine because of ss marriage? Are you going to be holier than thou?

  • me-l'Hashem-ailay says:

the fact that the letters in yeshiva about doing everything to stop toevah signed by the roshei hayeshiva have not been taken down is a clear sign that they are there to tell us that the roshei hayeshiva want us to vote for christie regardless of what was put out by the vaad

  • Anonymous says:

To the Rabbi with chad gad w/e
Its hard to belive that you would write something like that. If g-d wants you to have money for your bills he won’t have a hard time getting it to you. But one thing for sure he wants is for you to hate the same things he hates. Even with getting all the money from the state its no gaurante that will stay on.

Why didn’t the Rosh Yeshiva speak to an american gadol I would imagine an american gadol understants the situation a lot better?

  • Ari says:

I’m trying to understand the mentality of all the people posting here. It seems R’ Aron Leib said to vote for Corzine and so did R’ Moshe Heinemann. So far there has not been one rav that has come out openly against voting for Corzine. Even the Roshei Yeshiva that signed the letter against voting for civil marriages only did so in New York where Civil Union is not already legalized anyway (unlike NJ). Yet here we have on the Scoop everyone layman on the street giving their opinion whether to listen to the gedolim or not. Does R’ Aron Leib know what he’s talking about or not! Don’t you understand you are playing with fire? Don’t you understand that you may not know all the facts and you may be wrong? Is it worth burning for this? The hot heads in the coffee room in Yeshiva may not know all the facts, they do know that they hate the Vaad and will always try to delegitimize them.
They may be right, but just keep in mind that they also may be wrong. Who’s side do you want to be on?

Why when it comes to everything else ,are we told to ask the Poskim of the Yeshiva and with this issue we are told to ask the VAAD ? Why dont you ask the 4 Rabonim of the yeshvah and you might be surprised WHAT THEY PASKEN . aT LEAST ONE OF THEM HAS SAID IT IS OSSUR TO VOTE FOR ANY CANDIDATE WHO SUPPORTS TOIEVA

  • puting it straight says:

To start, the comma after “also attached” and after “marriage” are wrong.

Secondly, the best solution for ending this machlokes is for the vaad to endorse whom they want without pressuring anybody to listen to them. Like all other endorsements, they should state their view and let everyone decide for themself.

Thirdly, the pressure to conform not only has blown up into this big machlokes, it has stopped honorable people from openly stating their mind, and this is a really big problem.

  • Anonymous says:

Rboisai . You dont have to vote for Christie just to be against Toieva . If you feel you cant vote for Corzine ,then just vote for Menashe and Meir and the locals and abstain on the Gov race

  • bochurim4christie says:

who is the Vaad is there a email address to request full disclosure of their names and intentions?

  • Lakewodd Roshei Yeshiva against SS Mariage says:

    From Chris Christie’s website

I am pro-life. Hearing the strong heartbeat of my unborn daughter 14 years ago at 13 weeks gestation had a profound effect on me and my beliefs. The life of every human being is precious. We must work to reduce abortions in New Jersey through laws such as parental notification, a 24-hour waiting period and a ban on partial-birth abortion.

I also believe marriage should be exclusively between one man and one woman. While, I have no issue with same sex couples sharing contractual rights, I believe that marriage should remain the exclusive domain of one man and one woman. If a bill legalizing same sex marriage came to my desk as Governor, I would veto it. If the law were changed by judicial fiat, I would be in favor of a constitutional amendment on the ballot so that voters, not judges, would decide this important social question.

  • lakewoodreader says:

while there were gedolim like rav avigdor miller who would never endorse candidates who condoned toava, the overwhelming majority of gedolim (including rav moshe feinstein zt”l) supported mayor ed koch – a big menuval -when he ran!

  • mark levin says:

  • Gunig Shon says:

It is a Busha that UNZERE Vaad are selling us short. Just vote for CHRISTIE!!!

  • Reb Yudel with all due respect says:

Don’t you realize that by advising the oilam not to vote you ARE in essence voting for Corzine?
Reb Yudel: Did you really think this thing through? I don’t think so. I therefore strongly beg to differ with you.

Of course there was a rainbow. To remind der gantzer oilam (you included Reb Yudel) to vote for Christie. :-)
go Christie. Tell your friends every vote counts.
Do it for yourself; Your mishpacha; and vote for CHANGE in NJ (sorry BHO for ripping off your motto. But your buddy Jon gotta go.

  • Pampers says:

Guys, corzine is a vote for obama. Also, he supports G marriage. Also, taxes, tolls, sales taxes, will increase and wages will go down. Car insurance property ins and condo ins will go up. Gas taxes will rise. Unemployement will rise. But don’t worry BMG will get their way and you got to believe that you don’t count but BMG. Time to get cristie into the gov chair!!!!
And for the LAC, I know chesky well, and he is a great guy out here for our good!!! People bashing him know nothing! Thanks again chesky for the “motze shabbos meeting”. Was excellent and inspiring!!!!

  • shimon omeir says:

ATT VAAD , your credibilty is at stake here, please do the right thing , the oilem’s going to vote with their hearts this election. also LAC, stop drinking the Route9 KOOLAID and vote what you think is right. Is there anyone else out there besides Rabbi Cohen and the hundreds of angry yungerleit who protest this abomination to Ha-shems honor? KOVOD Shomayim is at stake here over a sack of supposed gold.Corzine is the one who opend a g charter school, signed g legistlation to approve bi marriages on and on and on . MI LA’HAshem ai lie

  • Pampers says:

Btw, G marriage in NY is no diff then in NJ. Those claiming the opposite are spinning the truth. After christi is in, it would be time to oust the entire legistlator body in trenton and reelect a new responsible team. And so in lkwd.

  • Yungerman4Corzine says:

pampers: Why do you say that ss marriage in NY is no different than NJ? You are wrong. You can easily check on the internet that the NJ, unlike NY, recognizes ss civil unions which are similar to marriage in every respect but name. According to gemora, the ksubas ha’ish brought about the mabul, and in NJ, unlike in NY, we unfortunately have it already.

  • anon says:

Y did they have 2 endorse any1 this time and get involved in this shaila?

  • me-l'Hashem-ailay says:

does anyone here have a heter not to make a macha against the toeva! there are rabbonim that spoke against the vaad endorsement-what more do you need! (if this was going oin e”y the steets would be filled with burning garbage!) whats wrong with us-why dont we get up and do something! the clock is ticking!

  • TO Y-4CORZINE says:

Civil Unions were signed into law under the Corzine administration! So there you have another reaSON to vote for him i guess

  • TO ARI.. says:

Many Ravs came out against it including Rabbi Simcha Bunim Cohen and others,go ask the poiskim in yeshiva you will see what they have to say.Dont believe what you hear about Rav Shteinman it never happened

  • Dr. Suess says:

    Jon S. Corzine
    Please go home.
You can go by train. (NJT if you prefer)
you can go by plane (your private jet)
you can go by car or SUV (but please buckle up)
we gave you a chance four years ago
but our income and property taxes are choking us.
It’s time for a change. And unfortunately you must go!!!
By way of election, we will show you the door
The Lakewood VAAD truly means well. But the regular Moish in Lakewood Is fed up. He can no longer afford to live here.
If only you would have kept your promise to reign in the special interest you would have lowered taxes and kept life here in the great Garden State affordable. But, alas no. You taxed us out of house and home. Mr. Jon S. Corzine I hope you realize the tremendous gratitude the VAAD has shown you. They truly went out on a broken limb for you. There is opposition for your endorsement and if Lakewood is any indication of the Great Garden State you are in deep trouble.
Oh and BTW whether you win or lose I must tell you how much I respect your sheer drive. You were terribly injured in that horrible accident and you have enough $$$$ to get a less stressful job yet your sticking with this rough and tumble election. Unfortunately, you got to let somebody else try. And if Christie turns out like the other christie we will send him packing too.
Thank G-d for elections. And best of luck on November 4th. (I’ll leave the good luck on November 3rd for your opponent.)

  • TO DR SUESS says:

    That was amazing…..
    Yudel I saw a rainbow last night….
    by kiddush levana

  • Yungerman4Corzine says:

TO ARI: How do you know that Rav Shteinman’s heter never happened? Did you check with Rav Shteinman or with Rav Arei Malkiel who reportedly called him?…

  • let's be honest says:

Let’s be very honest. If the vaad had endorsed Chris Christie there would be a group of guys from yeshiva protesting vociferously. It wouls go something like this: How can the vaad endorse someone who is a sonei yisroel? Christie is a rasha who viciously entrapped frum yidden! Doesn’t the vaad know that Christie openly promises to fight for civil rights and complete civil equality and parity for Toevanics? What personall promises did they get for their own needs to endorse Christie? All the vaad cares about is what’s in it for them personally from Christie. The vaad couldn’t care less about the oilem at large that could be devastated by Christies plans to cut all the social programs such as family care etc. The yungerleit in Lakewood are barely scraping by with the help of all the programs, and the vaad if fine with Christie slashing all the programs because it won’t affect them ! Don’t vote for the interest of a few yechidim and their mosdos. Don’t vote for Christie. – This is exactly what would be espoused. There certainly are some who are honestly opposing corzine but for the rest of us let us contemplate if we are simply being nitfal limachlokes or if we are honest and sincere in our own beliefs.

  • old time Lakewooder says:

I remember years ago that NJ wanted to legalize gambling & bring casinos to AC, R’ Shneur ZT’L put up a sign in yeshiva to vote against the candidate ( who promised special monies for the yeshiva causes ) , because he saw the impact those Mikomos haniyuf will have on the future of Lkwd. Yungerlait & bochurim, fast forward 30 years look at the devastating effect that gambling & zoinos had on toshvei Lakewood over the years, Families and ruchniyus destroyed, who knows what type of effect this Toveya bill can have 3 – 5 years down the road on Lakewood Neshomos, the Yetzer Hora is happy to give money to Moisdos Hatorah now to potentially get a prize & C’V see Lakewood’s future B’shtufei Zeimah, The words of the Roshei Yeshiva Shlit’a have to be the final say, but they should specifically address the Corzine Toveya issue publicly so the Shtet’l can understand how to navigate this issue. ( R’ Shneur’s sign years ago spelled out that hotels in AC will be marbeh Zoinos)

  • the emes says:

how does the VAAD allways land up on the other side of the olim?
how does the VAAD allways land up geting the olim angry?

answer : they are representing difrent interests (bussnesmen builders & hakers in lakewood who need ‘tovos’) &thats nice , but not representing us the taxpaying, tuition paying, yungerlet(&hard workers) that want 2 live a erlicah& eidel life with no smutz in our area & not so high bills

so those how feel the represent them ? vote like they say
& all of us : will vote: the other way!

  • Anonymous says:

ya koch was a menuval like the rest of them but he dod not try to “promote his cause” bottom line is “keseph yhaana hakol” we all know it

  • Independent Thinker says:

I think the Lakewood Olam is starting to learn that it can think for itself and that the Vaad and the Olam do not necessarily have the same agenda. So I am going to vote for MY choice this time and not the Vaad’s. Sorry. Solidarity is good, but, only if it is good for us.

  • Chaim says:

In this day and age a lot of Rabbonim and Gedolim have urged Klal Yisroel to vote for Republicans?Conservativs because they stand for more of family morals and values thean the left/Liberals who stand for toeiva!

  • Anonymous says:

Agudas Yisroel and R’ Moshe Sherer publicly opposed Koch even when he threatened them with major financial revenge. And it was not an empty threat.(AIOA can’t endorse candidates due to their tax exempt status)I don’t remember Rav Moshe or any other Godal telling anyone to vote for Koch.Once he was in office they dealt with him due to lack of choice.

  • united says:

Everyone should get behind the Vaad in Lakewood if there will be achdus we will see tremendous brocho that we can all use, and maybe even the real geulah quickly. The Vaad should organize an asifa in a Q & A format in Lake terrace tonite so the residents in LKWD. can ask honorable questions as to know the needs and avodas hakodesh being worked on by the Vaad and find out specifically how these candidates help or negate the unified needs of the community, Also why does R’ Schenkowlewsy the police chaplain need to sign separately from the Vaad , he has always helped LKWD. With police matters , but what’s his specific Shaycus to the spiritual or monetary needs of the community. Is he in the Vaad or representing something else ?

  • geshmakerrr says:

It is a little to late for a Park Terrace gathering. they should have done that prio to any endorsements. At a meeting tehy should poll the Vaad Memebers in front of then olam not any “backdoor” shenaningans and then endorse someone then there would be more achdus.

  • elvis says:

THIS IS TURNING INTO A NIGHTMARE, LAKEWOOD VAAD YOU BETTER PUT OUT A PRESS RELEASE ASAP.
I honestly think if you retract your position, eventhough the town may lose lots of money, the people will really respect you for admitting you were wrong. I think this whole thing is a cleacr result from that FBI sting. The people are sick and tired of special interests, they want CHANGE and a new candidate would be a nice start. Then let’s get some transparency in Lakewood Township where every penny is accounted for. Even if it means Mosdos will lose money, what good is that money if it was gotten by ill gotten means, and if its all legal then there’s nothing to hide. We have created a system here were the corruption is so thick, its almost impossible to undo, but I think its doable. CLEAR MESSAGE HERE, The people want to do the right thing ALWAYS!!!

  • Yungerman4Corzine says:

anon 9:32: You are wrong to say that Aguda never supported Ed Koch. They did. That didn’t stop Aguda from taking him to court for conditioning city funds for Aguda on their compliance with non-discrimination against ss people.

  • Rational says:

I have no problem with the Vaad endorsing Corzine as they say for Hakoras Hatov, my guess is that it the right thing to do after he bought their endorsement. On the other hand, we as individuals should not place a vote for someone who will continue to bring NJ to financial collapse! I urge everyone to vote for who you think is best for NJ are you personally… I for one will vote for Christie.

  • Born and raised in lkwd says:

When i was growing up in lkwd in the 70s and 80s whenever there were elections Rabbi Schenklewski said who to vote for and thats what happen due to polotics that has changed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! BRING THE RABBI BACK AND THE ACHDUS I GREW UP WITH WILL BE BACK.
Us old lakewooders miss what used to be a true makom torah

  • Reuve says:

GO CHRISTIE!!! It is certainly time for a change. The Vaad needs to start supporting the people, not the politicians!

  • Yungerman4Corzine says:

I also join in calling on the Vaad to issue a detailed explanation for their endorsement to refute the oilom’s concerns. It shouldn’t be too hard…

It appears from reading the TLS that since I left Lakewood, the town had attracted many frum legal scholars, political and social scientists, and first-rate economists. More surpisingly, it looks like now Lakewood had many people whose chochmosom and irosom supersedes the Rosh Yeshivas’ and Rav Shteiman’….

Yashrus: please…what do you think Reb Malkiel asked him? Do you think he asked him if we can vote for a bald person….or for someone with the last name Corzine? Come on…

I am very surprised that you guys don’t know that most Gedolei YIsroel have always paskened that the immoral stances are not dispositive in deciding how to vote. Of course those stances must be considered but other equally important should be considered too.

This all discussion had already taken place when Rav Schach formed Gimel. Don’t you know that Gimel was part of the coalitions whose stances were not much different from Corzine’s…

  • Christie Not Poshut says:

There may be very serious Halachic ramifications to voting for Christie, e.g. Mesaya L”dvar Averia. In fairness, this may also be applicable to voting for Corzine.

Christie instigated the Mesira of Chashuva Rabbonim as the US Attorney responsible for programing and handling our well-known ‘fum’ moiiser. (He wasn’t satisfied with just going after politicians — think about it!) He will no doubt continue and encourage those efforts as Governor and you may be directly helping him by putting him in office.

Note: he has purposefully stayed out of Lakewood (except for a private fundraiser) and seems to want to distance himself from the Lakewood Kehilla.

Regarding the endorsement: The Vaad made a very hard choice based on many serious Cheshbonos and after serious consultations. It was submitted to, and approved, by the RY and their Daas Torah. Their position, agree or disagree, is a credible one and does not deserve to derided by false, and frankly chutzpadike, allegations.

As far as the general bashing – (Vaad, Rabbonim, Roshei Yeshiva, Askonim, etc.): To hold a principled position is one thing, to spread Loshon Hora, Shem Ra and Rechilus on those with whom you disagree – especially with self-righteous ‘frumkiet’ – is another.

Lets behave as we know we should and trust in the Ribbono Shel Olam for the rest.

Just confirmed with rav shteinmans gabbai. he assured me that maran reb shteinman did NOT tell anyone to vote for a candidate who supports ss mariage and toeiva. its all sheker vechazav and motzee shem rah on an adam godol.

Imagine the Kiddush Hashem if Christie wins in Lakewood , despite the Vaad & Lac saying to vote for Corzine. That will really show that Kovod Shomyim means more to (some of) us then money and such considerations.

  • Yungerman4Corzine says:

The reason Christie didn’t come to Lakewood because he thought that following the raid no Orthodox sane person will give him their vote. I guess he somewhat oversetimated our oilom’s intelligence….

  • Yungurman for yashrus says:

Christie stayed away from Lakewood because the Vaad told the Republican bosses stay away. Why only Corzine was invited to the big bash at Schi? Why not Christie getting the same treatment? When Christies Lt Governor came to visit she received a much less “bakovodik” reception than Corzine – is that fair!
Also anyone thinking what is the deal with SCHI why and since when has that become the meeting place for all politicians?

  • Anon says:

The biggest issue, I think, is that besides for everything else, Obama endorses Corzine! A vote for Corzine is supporting Obama who is anti-Israel and anti-Jew!

However, I also believe that Christie was behind the whole Dweck business, and I think I will vote independent!

newsbreaker: Chris Christie was out of office 9 MONTHS before FBI sting. Liberal blogs and news agency are trying to link him to Dwek to create a stain .
In reality, yes he fought corruption but NO he was not involved in the sting. you would’nt know it because every article abot SD mentions Christys fight on corruption DONT BELIEVE THE LIES being told by mainstream media

  • Yungerman4Christie says:

The oilom is voting for Christie. If the VAAD wants to get on board before it is too late, they are more than welcome! Let us restore achdus to our town!! Right, Berel? ;)

  • Oilom Kvetcher says:

Un vus zukt the Mashgiach shlit”a? Will the VAAD put out a doctored letter on his behalf like they did in last year’s primary??

I didn’t want to mention it before but yes I would be happy to see programs cut and less Chilul Hashem, gezel, sheker, and genavas daas coming out of certain members of our community.Generally programs aren’t just cut.Less money is allocated to them to and stronger sreening processes are put into place taking away nisyonis from some of the guilty parties.

  • Yungerman4Corzine says:

    Lies Lies:

I will give you some facts. You are correct that Christie left office 8 months before the raid, but nobody has the beef with the raid itself. The FBI agents were given orders and they carried them out. The problem was with the so called investigation, and the investigation was hatched and led by Christie. The day after the raid Christie’s approval ratings have skyrocketted and he himself took credit for the operation. His website says the following-”Cristie led a widely acclaimed charge against public corruption”.

    t Dwek went entraping
Christie led a widely acclaimed charge against public corruption.
