Lakewood Covered In Snow

Feb 06 2010 6:47 pm

har_sinai_2
6:43 p.m. Snow has stopped falling as of approximately 3:00 p.m. today. The Department of Public Works has been working around the clock to dig Lakewood out of the latest blizzard. Gov. Chris Christie is considering declaring a state of emergence to seek federal cleanup assistance for costs associated with the winter storm. TLS will continue to monitor the cleanup process and keep you updated.
6:56 p.m.Snap a photo of with your Blackberry or Camera Phone and send it to thelakewoodscoop@gmail.com so we can add it to our album.
7:02 p.m. All The Way Towing was called by Hatzolah when their Ambulance got stuck, but was cancelled on the way as they made their way out, and got the patient to the Hospital. Most areas in Lakewood  got between one to two feet of snow.
7:17 p.m. Most County roads have been fully plowed. Some Lakewood roads still covered.
7:42 p.m.TLS just spoke with Committeeman R’ Meir Lichtenstien who worked tirelessly over Thursday and Friday together with the other Committee members to ensure a smooth cleanup. “Our efforts have definitely paid off” he said. “We can see a tremendous improvement from the last storm”. There are still some areas which are not done, but they are continuing to work on them. There have been 30 trucks on the roads since the beginning of the storm, including some with Supervisors.
8:04 p.m. Residents from several areas told TLS they have gotten 16-20 inches of snow.
9:29 p.m.A TLS reporter who has just returned from Monsey told us the Garden State Parkway is clear. (TLS-16)
9:39 p.m. Route 9 South (Lakewood bound) is moving slowly.
9:54 p.m. Parts of Route 9 are one-way traffic only and traffic is moving at a pace of 30-35 mph. The GSP is a preferred route at this time.

  • brookhill says:
    February 6, 2010 at 7:29 pm

I almost never comment on these sites, but I must give thanks to the Departments this time. Brookhill was plowed very well this afternoon. They dedicated a truck to Brookhill and the fellow went back and forth until he established a nice wide road for driving (and walking).
If they follow up with good salting (it is obviously extremely slippery) then they will have done a superb job on all counts and everyone who helped prepare for this storm deserves credit where credit is due.

I am not kvetching but I am wondering why there was no salt put down today. My street was plowed pretty well but I noticed that the trucks were loaded with salt with no spreader. Is it a budgeting decision?

  • Anonymous says:

The fact that it was shabbos helped a lot by no cars on the road and thanks to the residents for parking in the driveways.
