At Least One Dead After Drowning In Pond

pond drowningBREAKING NEWS: (PHOTOS & VIDEO (Video updated 9:50 p.m.) At least one person is dead after drowning in a pond in the Cedarbridge area a short time ago. Police received a call at about 6:15 p.m. when a passerby noticed a truck near the water with nobody in sight, and with what appeared to be a small boat in the water. Police arrived and called for the Brick Underwater Search Team. Divers immediately entered the water and within minutes pulled one body from the pond. Preliminary-however unconfirmed- reports indicate, that a father and son may have gone to the pond for some sort of sport and may have slipped in. CIU is currently investigating. U/D 8:10 p.m. Sources tell TLS that a second body has been recovered.

VIDEO HAS BEEN REMOVED UPON REQUEST FROM A FAMILY MEMBER.

TLS would like to extended our deepest condolences to the family.

  1. Wow!! I drove by at around 5:30 and noticed 2 people standing at the edge of the pond. It looked like there was a small boat/jet ski in the water, I wasn’t able to see the boat but I saw a plume of water shooting up and the plume was moving around the pond. I assumed they were playing with a remote control boat. I can’t imagine what happened after that.

  2. To #4- Whomever you are (AE) you should contact the police and give them your information ASAP as it may help in determining timing and/or any other cause of the event.

  3. I have seen the Lakewood Dive Team at the 4th of July. Where were they today? Maybe is we used Brick’s services we could save money. What else can we have them do? I have seen their Canine’s in town.

  4. #7… LPD tried to get K-9s, however too many people complained and didn’t like dogs. Secondly, most of the LPD dive team members are also SWAT members and are currently injured from being shot or shot at during a house raid where four brave Lakewood officers were struck, 2 of them with severe wounds requiring surgical procedures.

  5. Why doesn’t lakewood fire dept., lakewood ems, or first aid have a dive team? We live in a big town how come we are not prepared to handle any type of emergency that comes our way.

  6. Im all for K-9’s in Lakewood. Just the knowledge that there are dogs patrolling around will in my opinion greatly decrease crime in our town. Im pretty sure there are grants that cover every cost aspect of having a K-9 unit, just gotta find officers that will not abuse the position…

  7. My heart goes out to this family I can’t fathom the pain they must now be in a father and son go out for a fun afternoon and now the family is left shattered may god help this family come thru this terrible tragedy

  8. This was my best friends daughter’s father and her brother. Apparently they were playing with a remote controlled boat and it got stuck. Father went to loosen it and he got stuck and son went to help him and they both drowned. You can’t begin to imagine how sad this really is, to have a daughter plan a double funeral. Investigation is still under way.

  9. this is a sad tragedy, a father spending quality time with his son and they both drown. my sincere condolence to the grieving family.

  13. To Y.

You obviously don’t read the scoop very often. Anyone with a half brain can see the answer to your question. Its a very sad story and we wish the family and friends our deepest sympathy. Nobody should have to go through such pain and I’m hope the family can get throught this tragedy and I’m sure everyone in the community will be there for them in their time of suffering. As far as your question, there is no shiva or levaya information in the story or the comments. Sometimes a little saichel can go a long way in helping you get the scoop on things.

  22. We would like to thank everyone on here for their thoughts, prayers and warm memories, during this tragic time in our lives.
We also wish to thank all the Emergency Personnel, who responded and worked so diligently.

  23. I spoke with HH and told him to write his condolenses. He said he didn’t want to make it look like he is trying to get votes through somebodies tradgedy. But he told me he feels awful after reading what nice people they were to die in such a freak accident. This is a shock to the whole town, and we all need to feel saddened by this. Two young people in their prime, the lord must have wanted their good souls very much.

  24. I had the pleasure of working with Mark Jr. freshman year in a couple of his classes. He was a great kid with a big heart. He would always say hi to me no matter where we were. A nice friendly kid that was always nice to have around. He will be missed by many. He will be forever in our hearts. Prayers go out to the family.

  25. rest easy Mark we all were thinking about you today at school. I cant belive your really gone. Everyone was crying today it was just a very quiet day but with that quietness came sadness because all those quiet people were thinking about you.

  29. What a terrible tragedy for our town! From all the posts it is clear that these were special two very people and that compounds the tragedy even more. The thoughts and prayers or our community are with the family and friends as we all share in their grief. If there is any glimmer of light from this tragic episode it is the coming together of our diverse community in this time of sorrow for our town. We all feel your pain, we all indentify with your loss, we all wish you no more sorrow. May their memory serve this noble cause.

  30. To think i was just with him the other day i chill wit this kid like everyday didnt know him for very long but the time i did know him i’ve seen he’s a very nice guy and has a great heart…. obviously!! he went back risking his life for his father like i said he is a good guy and ha a heart of gold i love you bro rest in peace your in my heart forever…..

  31. rest in peace mark, u have touched someone’s life in many ways and we all wont forget all the things u have done for us being there for us no matter what the deal was. you wont ever be forgotten. i really dont know the father but rest in peace also ull be missed alot also!

  32. Father Mark was a great guy, like a 2nd father to me growing up as he worked with my father at the same place, as Little Marky was growing up we all went to the dragstrip to watch the cars and we all grew up around them. Seems like only a few days ago when they stopped and saw my new project and was telling them it was finished and they should stop by. My condolences to the family and other friends like me who will truely miss the two of them.

  33. Words cannot describe the depth of this tragedy. My heart goes out to this family although I do not know them personally. I also lost a father when he was a mere 51 so I can relate a bit but to lose a father while enjoying some quality time together?! That is virtually unheard of ! May G-D give this family the much needed strength they sorely need. May he comfort them and may we only hear of good things.

  34. We loved you mark! You were the nicest kid i knew! No matter what happened when john popped his tire you drove him to the bike store and gave him money for a new tire. You used to drive me and tiff too seaside so we could all hang out and walk on the boardwalk cause the library got boring! man i just never thought it would be you to leave us all first man. I remember when i first met you and you were in the gutterball crew and i just joined then now your dead like its clicked into my head that you are actually gone and i just wanted to let you know mark i will still give that speech i promised you i would do when i graduate you were supposed to do it with me but now its not just for those kids getting bullied and everyone else now im doing it for you! you were an amazing friend and tho i didnt know you for a long time mark you are really an amazing friend love you RIP 5-17-10…. 1993-2010 and you will be forever missed and never forgotten

  37. my heart goes out to the family. thank to the men who went in to help rescue them, thank you Brick dive team this is hard job.

  38. FYI, as far as #15 about why Lakewood uses Brick Fire Dept. Dive Team, Underwater Recovery is an activity that is often REGIONALIZED, not every town has or needs one. Conversely, Lakewood Fire Dept. has a HAZMAT team, and Brick does not. So, while Lakewood may use Brick for Underwater Search/Recovery, Brick uses Lakewood for Hazmat. Saves everyone tax dollars.

  39. mark we will mislose to me nd camwe always had fun talking in the hall u were so loved we will all miss u nd u dad rest in peace god has two angles now rest in peace love amanda nd cameran

  40. i beleive there are a few qualified divers on the lakewood ems,,but remember our town tried to disband them due to budget problems…they are more then willing and trained but due to lack of money can not get equipment….maybe we should support them instead of get rid of them, and then we can use these individuals for all their specialized tringing too….they are the best and deserve oppertunity to perform at there peak….thank you lakewood ems for still being here even though your pay was drasticly decreased…we love you guys and gals…

  41. I know it’s been over 9 months since the incident, but just thought I’d say:

Mark, I love and miss you, and no day without you is any easier than the rest. I think about you everyday, and more and more since then. You will forever be in my heart & I hope the family is holding up well.

    – Love Always,
    Olivia Vera Giersch.

I miss you, my best friend.
