Lakewood First Aid Squad Kicks Off Annual Fundraiser
The following is a message from the LFA: Dear Lakewood Residents and Friends,
We hope that as a resident of this community you know of the fine work the Lakewood First Aid Squad has done this past year. We are proud to announce that we are entering our 80th year of service. It is with gratitude that we would like to take this opportunity and thank everyone that who has given us their support. Your generous donations have made it possible for our volunteer EMT’s to continue and provide quality emergency medical aid to you and your neighbors.
We hope that through your continued support we can go on serving our community for many years to come.
Did you know our volunteer squad….
…is on call 24/7 for back-up coverage for the Lakewood Township EMS ?
…operates the only rescue and extrication unit for Lakewood Township ?
…never charges anyone for their services ?

Isn’t there a tremendous duplication of service here (causing unnecessary expense to the community)? Sure, each organization office one particular service the others do not, but wouldn’t we be better served if there was some merging of services?
# 1 do you live in a box? Where have you been the past few months? Do you know how many people live in this township? That is like saying the county only needs one hospital, school, synagogue, dr, etc etc etc
Why is there only one EMS Dept First Responder car available ?
Why don’t the paramedic monoc ambulances transport instead of following behind an EMS ambulance?
Why does the Volunteer First Aid have to be a back-up?
This system is a complete waste of taxpayer’s monies.

#3 — There is only one First Responder car available from 7a – 3p and another available from 3p-11p. There is not the call volume there was in years past and definitely not a call volume after 11p and before 7a that warrants a first responder vehicle.
Medics (MONOC) are not supposed to transport, most times they are in the ambulance on serious calls and the ems person or the volunteers (when they are called) will drive the ambulance.
Why is there an issue with asking the Volunteers to back up the Paid EMS. They are just as trained and have been running this town since the early days of Lakewood.. Why must everything be a problem..there are so many things wrong with this town..I dont know how crazy this makes us the know that all you care about is spending money..don’t worry eventually you will be paying through the nose for every service. And then you can complain to the Township Committee about that. There are over 75k people in this town, my guess is there are more like 100k people in this town..more traffic, more complaints, more me me me problems..what about helping out where you live..helping the town …oh but I guess since no one wants to get involved US Volunteers will handle it…TFN
Hatzolah also operates rescue and extrication. Hatzolah also never charges. Why can’t residents call for the First Aid Squad to respond instead of the EMS? The EMS should back up the Volunteers! If paramedics are not allowed to transport then why do they drive expensive Ambulances?
#6 the first aid is back up to the EMS because they are not getting paid to standby near the ambulance all day, they have jobs they need to go to to pay their bills, most people work during the day when the call volume is highest so there would not be enough volunteers available during the day to handle every call, thankfully there are a few members whos schedules allow them to come out for calls during the day and they try to take care of EMS’s pending calls, as far as paramedics driving ambulances i agree with you, medics very rarely transport……very rarely…and they cold probably be just as effective driving SUV’s or maybe crown victorias that would be capable of carrying most of their equipment that BLS ambulances don’t have
