VIDEO: Bais Hatorah Parents Meet At School

bais hatorah meeting picVIDEO of this evening’s meeting at Yeshivah Bais Hatorah, where hundreds of parents – men and women – gathered to hear an update on the situation, and received a Bracha from the Rosh Hayeshivah. A parent of the school tells TLS, that rumours of the possibility of the school splitting and becoming two schools, is false, and it it just a matter of time before it reopens.

The 400 student school announced it’s closing last Sunday, a day before the new school year was scheduled to begin.

  1. Mosdos today don’t have a budget. Everyone is behind. Its more than just $$, I think. But, for the sake of the boys & their parents, I hope it opens up soon.

  2. i know someone who lost their job because they have no money to pay rabbeim.
    and to #1
this yeshiva tries and generally succeeds in paying their paychecks to their staff on time so there is your/our budget.

  3. You can have the best budget but, if the parent body, many of whom are klei kodesh, don’t pay tuition, or pay it late, ur budget is meaningless. Many parents, in all industries, from Real Estate to computer programmers have lost large amounts of their income. So tuition collection goes down & ur stuck.

  4. I just spoke to a person involved w/ the school. Sadly, there was no resolution from last night’s meeting. The Rebbes still aren’t paid, they still have a close+to-a-million-dollar shortfall.

  5. If I may ask a question?

I see how men and women are seated, which I don’t understand but if that’s your way, then ok. But are the women aloud to participate in the meeting? Are they allowed to speak? Just a question, no offense meant.

  6. What is needed in Lakewood is for all the schools to be merged into ONE community School. Then the rich people will get behind it in a big way. Right now there is no desire to get involved as the schools are viewed as personal fiefdoms.

  7. I don’t know what a monthly salary is for a rebbe, but, let’s say it is about $4000. If twenty parents get together and hire a rebbe for 5 hours a day and each pay $200 a month, and someone lets the group learn in his house in a basement perhaps, and they can also hire an English teacher for 2 hours for the same group for less money, they’d be spending far less on tuition than in a school and I am sure the education will be just as good. This can be done in every situation for boys or girls, without overhead. Each group of parents could have periodic meetings as to curriculum and to discuss issues that come up. Maybe it’s not as good as a school, but, it can be done.

  8. U answered it urself. Its not as good as a school. Period. Ur idea is good for a day-camp, for a few weeks. But for a whole year ?! & btw, that’s what they’re doing now. Many kids r learning in their Rebbe’s houses.

  9. #9,
It’s an interesting idea, but your type of thinking is why most people don’t understand why mosdos are always struggling.
    Let’s look at it….
What happens if the Rebbe needs support? A child misbehaves, or needs to be taken out. What if a child’s need extra attention academically? what if a child needs remedial help? What about english? who will develop the curriculum? Who will ensure that the teacher is teaching properly? What about copies, supplies? Lunch? Cleanup? Books? or the million other things that is needed?
Now can you understand that $5000 tuition (for those who actually pay it) doesn’t cover the budget?
I can keep going on, but we must realize that it’s no small matter to accomplish. What about accepting students into the class? Who decides? The parents? Trust me you wont get any group to fully agree on anything. What if a parent doesn’t or can’t pay tuition, who goes after them? Who lays out the money? Which parent gets the zechus of going into debt?
You see now what we owe our mosdos owners?
How about we all standup for them when they walk into the room?
How about that owner of a school in Lakewood who travels to NY everyday to work a business to fund his school? ( I’m sorry I don’t know which school or his name, just that its what he does. If anyone knows please let us know.)
They deserve to be crowned for their dedication to our children. and I know for a fact that they are quiet about it and don’t want any recognition for their avodas hakodesh.
These are the true Gedolei Yosroel.

I think we need to find ways to support our existing schools, and not open more.

    These

  10. if the askanim in lakewood
can raise more the a half million dollars in two night asifas for the rubashkin lawyers then it shouldnt be too difficult to bail out the school. where are our priorities???? hashem yerachem!

  11. If u don’t pay your full balance u have 0 write to complain don’t expect to drop your kids off and have a free babysitter rebbe teacher or what ever u want to call it
No pay no work other schools should do the same
