3 West Nile Cases Confirmed In NJ

Sep 01 2010 10:08 am

HEALTH WEST NILE SEASONState health officials have confirmed three cases of West Nile virus in New Jersey this summer. The latest case is an 86-year-old Passaic County man. He was released from the intensive care unit at St. Mary’s Hospital in Passaic on Tuesday. The man, who was not identified, told doctors he had received many mosquito bites because he spends a lot of time outdoors.

West Nile virus is transmitted from infected mosquitoes that have fed on birds that have the virus.

A 68-year-old woman from Ocean County and a 78-year-old woman from Essex County are the other two confirmed cases.
