LCSW Offers Well Wishes To Boro Park Shomrim Shooting Victims

Sep 03 2010 3:02 pm

LCSW Logo“The LCSW team would like to take this opportunity to offer our best wishes to the Boro Park Shomrim shooting victims, following yesterdays shooting attack on fellow Civilian Patrol members”, says LCSW Director Aaron Kugielsky. ”This is a trying time for both the members and their families who give up their free time -and place their lives on the line- to protect the well being of their community, and we wish them a complete recovery”, Aaron says.

As reported in NY Media outlets, four members of Boro Park’s Shomrim Patrol were shot while responding to a call of a pedophile in the heart of Boro Park.

The members sustained non-life threatening injuries, after being shot by the suspect while tackling him to the ground.

Following the shooting, other patrol members arriving on scene managed to take the gun from the suspect, and held him down until police arrived.

The suspect – who was also shot during the scuffle – was arrested at the scene and taken into police custody.

The weapon used in the attack was recovered at the scene.

Charges are pending, but officials say he will likely be charged with attempted murder and other charges. TLS.

well that is why you first call the police and observe and report back to the dispatchers and never try to take the law into your own hands. Unfortunately this had to happen at some point with all these civil patrol running all over. Let the cops be sops and do their job.
pepper spray?????how does that help against a gun

How does a civilian volunteer group get so close to a crime scene? why are they being used in this capacity. If they want to get so involved take the police test and become cops. I see a trend in Lakewood, all they should be doing is being a extra set of eyes.

Lakewood Shomrim runs differently, and would never have approached this perp. They are still entitled to offer their wellwishes.

Pepper Spray against guns, now that is a very smart solution to the problem!!!!!!!!!!!!! I wish these gentlemen a speedy recovery and be thankful they are still alive. Lets keep the police work for the police, report suspicious activity keep eyes on the subject but do not approach them and call for POLICE!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just turn off your headlights, roll down your windows, drive real slow, and blast some rap beats. 99% of people would run. I sure as heck would.

For all those who just were introduced to BP Shomrim! Shomrom in Brooklyn are around for over 20 years now nothing changed for the way theyve been handling such situations. The fact that nothing has happened till now is really a miracle, they really put their lifes on line daily but let us not downplay their wonderfull work theres no question that crimes down majorly cause of their work. We really have to daven that hashem should grant a refua shleima bkarov to all the victims and we wish them a full recovery so that they could continue their wonderfull work!!!!

If anyone is familiar, The “First” lesson in EMT course and the very “first” question on the test is: What is the most important thing an EMS needs to know? the answer to that is “my safety comes first”. Police have guns and bullet proof vests for a good reason. Shomrim do a fantastic job in many ways. but they need to know where to draw the line.

If someone is an “active” victim I think very well its worth the chance being the facts that this is the first time apparently in 20 years!
If it was your daughter would you just “roll your windows down and play rap music” I wouldn’t!
Thank you NY shomrim and thank you LCSW I have personly gained from your acts!

Its a big lesson for all of us-dont take the law into your own hands. Shomrim themselves said this guy was a known perp to them, and justifies their running after him by saying he might have got away. Hey wait a minute- if he is a known perp to them don’t u think you’ll bump into him again?! Besides he had 9 prior arrest- I guess the cops know where to find this pig. What I maintain is that what happened, was a couple of guys who panicked, lost control, lost their cool heads, lost composure and proper peace of mind to think clearly, and went way to far beyond the hallachic and legal rights.

You have no clue what your talking about, shomrim in brooklyn are certified auxilory police and do this kind of stuff on a daily basis, in case you have no clue (u obviously dont) the law in ny allows any individual to make a citizens arrest, which fully supports their actions. They just happen to run in with a dangerous criminal, this could of happened to cops with guns and vests and they too could of got hurt so whats ur point…and then what would you say…the only difference is that these guys couldnt shoot back, but they ended up tackling it away from him and subdue him till the cops got there…dont b bashing a group of guys who put themselves out there for their community’s safety…ur just a another bitter jelous individual who cant say good about others.

I’m not bashing. I’m pointing it out. They are a good group, but even a good group must know their limits. And FYI citizens arrest would not apply here

Once again people who have no idea what happened are criticizing. They did not attempt to stop him but he was stuck in traffic and got into a road rage incident with a person in front of him who was trying to park and came out shooting. The members who were following attempted to bring him down to protect the lives of those nearby including many children who were playing outside. The shomrim made no attempt to stop or arrest him.
