Morning Shul Parking And Bus Runs, Not A Great Combo

bus trying to passPolice were called to several Shuls this morning after receiving multiple complaints regarding parking. Bus drivers complained that the parking on both sides of the road as well as parking at corners makes it difficult for them to maneuver the buses through the streets – especially in the complexes with narrow streets.

The snow ‘cutting off’ several feet off the streets, doesn’t make matters any better either.

Although not illegal in many areas, police are asking that motorists park in a safe and considerate manner.

It’s worth noting, that vehicles parked within 50 feet of a stop sign, are subject to fines, as well as vehicles parked 25 feet of a crosswalk or intersection. TLS-CCP.

  1. Mispalelim at Kol Shimshon: Please STOP parking on the north side of E11th st btwn Squankum and Lawrence (even when there is no snow). It is illegal (see sign). Even if you have to catch the last minyan you are be mazik me as you daven. thank you for your being makbel to stop and to spread the word. Kol tuv

  2. I was ONE of MANY busses stuck in Brook Hill Estates this morning and most of the men just stood there looking out the door instead of grabbing their keys to move their vehicles. A few did move and helped the busses to get around the other cars that did not move, so for those that did help THANK YOU!

  3. Okay so let me get this correct, the priority and most important thing to the mayor, township comm. and planning board, is to have more housing built on top of one another in lakewood and not to take in consideration of how parking would be or the safety of anyone living in and around these developments and streets.
I can’t say they allow it for the property taxes because we don’t see that either since the township says there broke and can’t afford anything and needs to lay people off.
Where is the Fire Dept., where is the Police Dept., doesn’t any of these agencies have a say of how to develop a development and make it safe for people to live and make sure there is access for their equipment in case of an emergency.

  4. how about making it illegal to park within 50 ft of a shul that does not have adequate parking? Most people are healthy enough to walk and recieve their schar halicha. I don’t know how many people are healthy enough (ruchnius wise) that they feel they can distupt other people’s lives just because their in a hurry to catch a minyan.

  5. ditto number 2
if the township is going to put 7 houses where there used to be ONE, we are going to run into some trouble, dont you think?
as far as developments, how about requiring WIDER roads?
what a novel idea. and driveways!

  6. I am also Complaing there are so many people that who have a driveway on E9th st and they are not being considerate about other people.. I wish someone would help me and tell these people stop parking on the street and be fair to other people… They are making me crazy about the parking on the street

  7. It’s about time that the community as a whole builds one gigantic shul with many botei midrashim and ample parking (500 spots+) in a very central area. That way people wont clog up all the small neighborhoods and developments. People will always be driving to the big shul, and no one will be inconvenienced.
There is no reason that we can’t have a Shoprite type parking lot

  8. perhaps the dept of public works can stay away from the residentail nieghborhoods till 9 am when all the busses are gone?
    the combonitaion is too much

  9. come on i see when im bringing my diabled child home n i live near a shull that my driveway is blocked besides ur toys ur strollers etc but when ur car ur toys or strollers what left on the street get stolen u cry theft no its stop blaming others for ur mistakes

  10. It is about time we realised that we are not doing a mitzvah, by opening a bais medrash, without providing ample parking. It is unfare to the residents of that block and a real lack of concern for others

  11. Dear #5
There is a reason why it is illegal to park there, two cars cant go in opposite directions when you park there. What gives you the right to break the law so you will have the convience of walking less, as our teanage drivers have constant bangups there. Shame on you that you are masar me as you daven!!!!

  12. I am confused. Isn’t the whole purpose of the orthodox community living so close to each other and so close to the shul so they can walk there? Isn’t that why property values have gone sky high in Lakewood over the past 20 years. Why is there so much traffic then?

  13. #8 I was NOT doing a double run I was doing my normal run, I wasn’t rushing nor do I ever rush when I’m doing my runs, I am a safe driver.

  14. Before these communities were built there were complaints about the streets being too narrow and trouble getting busses, garbage trucks and fire engines into and out of the complexes. Yet the Town allowed them to build with the narrow streets. Now it comes back to haunt them. Let’s hope no one dies because an emergency vehicle cannot get to them. They knew this was going to happen. Shame on them.

  15. I am the housing inspector for LHA, and travel to Lakewood each morning from Howell via Brookhill & 7th Sts – I have watched this area go from dangerous to rediculously dangerous over the last 5 years and have personally witnessed several accidents. Sooner or later someone is going to get killed on this corner. Between the Shul in the basement of the corner house, the school buses and everyone else it is only a matter of time before this corner is a tragedy… SLOW DOWN!!!

  16. What about the new Somerset Walk on James Street. I get all claustrophobic just driving by! I sure hope that they never have an evacuation emergency. From the looks of it, there’s only one way in/out by car.

  17. #15 we already have a large shul with tons of Minyanim-Satmar.
it just lacks a parking lot. so you see its not just a shul with lots of Minyanim & Satmar is pretty centered in lakewood BUT if everyone davens there mainly. THEN at least it would only be crowded over there & not near every shul

  18. 1.. Follow the laws, no one is better then the next person and no expections should be made. Laws are passed to provide safety. 2.. Be considerate when parking for buses and any other vehicles that may need to pass which may include emergency personnel.3. Stick to the topic 4. learn how to spell

  19. this town is a disater when it comes to planning or should I say lack of planning, just look at all the complaints about no access due to parking on the street . This would have never been an issue if there were some reasonable rules in place controlling growth and requiremnets for houses of worship .
well this is lakewood so don’t expect anything to change for the better soon

  20. Why can’t people who live in developments, like Brookhill, Chateau Park, etc. etc. walk the 2 minutes to Shul???? Why do you HAVE to drive the half a second to Shul, then park in such a manner that makes it impossible , especially for buses to get by?????
