VIDEO: Last month, TLS reported that the Township is looking into the option of installing red-light cameras in several high-speed intersections. In a recent poll on TLS, 53% of voters said they did not think it was a good idea, and 47% liked the idea. Some of the reasons given for not approving of the idea, were that motorists felt it would pose a greater risk of rear-ending vehicles which short-stop in order to avoid entering the intersection.
In this Record video, the pros and cons of the camera – installed in many cities – are discussed.

great idea. Maybe we can give out enough tickets to lower taxes
Maybe this can replace some patrolmen and save us big bucks!
so when are they going up…!
Nothing really is discussed other than the fact that it’s a cash cow for the towns installing them, and reenforces the argument that it’s not for public safety.
The only issue mentioned was that red light running accidents are one of the most deadly, what he failed to mention was that according to statistics in most instances the accidents did not occur in the first 2 seconds after the light turns red, which is what these cameras will primarily catch, but as a result of running a light way after it has changed to red. Therefore the only argument made for the camera is mute.
We really need this ASAP!!!!!
Actually it’s a cash cow for the company operating the cameras – the standard contract is between 30-70% (no that’s not a typo) of the revenue.
30-70% of the revenue??? Why cant the township just purchase them outright and collect 100% of the revenue?? Are these cameras that expensive?
Whoever thinks red light cameras are a bad idea, this is a video of people running red lights and the result

Hey #2, Take a look at the MUNICIPAL taxes you pay, divide it by 12 then let me know how much you pay for the entire MUNICIPAL services you receive. Then let me know how much BIG BUCKS you will save when the cameras replace the police. Maybe cameras can also take theft reports, accident reports, and all the other little reports that the police take on a daily basis.
What is the accident rate at lights that have cameras in brick. I think that more accidents from rear ends at lights with cameras is a poor excuse as why we should not have them.
What did idiots do all day before their was the internet, blog sites and the Lakewood Scoop?
Why do certian people believe that enforcing laws are so bad?
We should have an entire island for people who are self serving and
all around morons.
Oh wait we do already……………………
there are no cons for this…Don’t run red lights and you wont have a problem
install the lights, it might show how many people are on cell phones causing accidents.
