URGENT VIDEO MESSAGE: “This is a large, dangerous Hurricane. We have not seen anything like this – at least not in my lifetime – to hit New Jersey”, Police Chief Rob Lawson and Co0rdinator of Lakewood’s OEM, says. The Chief warns that Lakewood could be hit with 100 MPH winds and a lot of rain, and urges residents to be prepared. Number one, secure your home and vehicles and put away any lawn furniture and toys which could become projectiles in the high winds causing further damage to structures.
Provisioning: Be sure to have at least a three day supply, especially non-perishable, high energy food. Stores may be closed and you may not be able to get out. For a supply of water, you can fill up a bathtub or use other large receptacles to ensure you have water for several days.
Other items to keep in your home are flashlights, batteries, a radio and proper medications.
“You should expect to lose power”, says the Chief.
Vehicle: Make sure your car has a full tank of gas to ensure you can get away should there be a need to evacuate. Also, make sure you have cash handy, just in case.
“When the Hurricane hits, STAY INSIDE”.
Following the storm, do not attempt to go out, as there could be live wires on the ground and other hazards caused by the Hurricane.
“So please, take some common sense precautions, be prepared and be safe”. TLS.
Hurrican Irene Message From Police Chief Rob Lawson from The Lakewood Scoop.
When is the hurricane expected?
saturday night and sunday winds up to 100mph
Thank You Cheif Robert Lawson, you provided us with important advice.
I hope that people in the Jewish community understand that when the Chief says not to go out, that also includes going to your shul. It is not a case of Yaharog V’Al Yaavor(self-sacrifice) to daven with a minyan when the conditions are terrible.
Make sure that if you keep your Tallis and Tefillin in shul, you bring it home before the storm arrives.
Check on your elderly or infirm neighbors both before and after the storm. See if they need any supplies from the grocery or pharmacy.
Have your cell phone fully charged.
If the power goes out, leave your fridge and freezer closed as long as you can to preserve the food inside.
Have extra games or other things to entertain children(and adults) who might be stuck at home for long periods of time. There are many wonderful libraries around town with Jewish and non- Jewish books for free.
AccuWeather is saying worst storm in 50 years.
according to accu weather the storm will be hitting us for a duration of 11 hours on sunday.
Gov. Chris Christie today declared a state of emergency in New Jersey, clearing the way for state officials to deploy resources, including the National Guard, and other resources to counties and towns.
Christie is considering mandatory evacuations, but he’s asking people to not go to the Jersey Shore this weekend. People in rental properties should leave today or Friday, according to Christie.
filling the tub with little kids at home can be a recipe for disaster. be very careful, better to stink then have a potential tragedy.
What about tomorrow? Is is safe to commute to work in Manhattan?(It’s not like my boss will give me a choice)
Christie said he was still weighing whether to order a mandatory evacuation of the shore areas. For now, he said people on a barrier island and any other beach community from Sandy Hook to Cape May should begin preparing now to leave.
“We are not overreacting, we need to be ready for this,” Christie said.
He said that based on the state’s tracking, the eye of the hurricane, or the most violent part of the storm, could make landfall over Cape May or Atlantic County some time Saturday.
The storm surges, coupled with unusually high tides, could cause extensive flooding across the state.
what does the water supply have to do with the fact there may be a blackout there will be an overabundance of water
Please get the word out to all your friends and neigbors that this is a real threat. I work in a store and just spoke to someone wh had no idea New Jersey is in the danger zone.
when exactly is the storm suppose to hit lakewood area??
Nobody stayed home in the blizzard. A hurricane should be fun
the blizzard did not have 100+ mile an hour winds.
To anonymous (#9), the storm isn’t supposed to hit until late Shabbos evening early Sunday morning. Tomorrow (Erev Shabbos) is supposed to be nice weather.
Chief Lawson is a mentsch. I hope the oilam in Lakewood appreciates him.
As one who lives in Florida and has been through many of these including the eye- wall let me add the following to the excellent advice from Chief Lawson.
1) Prepare as if you will have no food water or electric for 5 days
2) Buy plenty of water
3) have a manual can opener ( pull out the Pesach one if you must)
4) take gallon ziplocs and dump your freezer ice into it and store in your freezer…you will need it later
5) have all of your insurance informaiton in plastic or tupperwares
6) if there are valuables that could become an insurance issue take photos or them now
7) have a safe room an interior room with no windows to ride out the storm
8) load up on seven day candles
9) during the storm stay away from all windows and keep the blinds closed..
10) Most deaths ( r”l) occur after the storm
11) hurricanes can spawn tornadoes
12) As to #4 the OU has protocols for shuls and shabbos.
13) help your neighbor
14) say tehillim
The current projected path has Lakewood on the “wrong side of the storm” the NE quadrant. Hopefuly the storm wil move to the east go out to sea and spare everyone
Another disaster is headed our way…are you going to take my daughter now or does Lakewood have to keep feeling the wrath of Hashem hit full force??!! Just 2 weeks left till school, which one of you is going to be the better one by taking in my wonderful daughter?
Just to inform you, a hurricane can be far more dangerous than a blizzard. A seemingly benign lawn chair can become a flying missile that can crash windows (or a fool who is outside).
And, objects that you never thought could fly, can and will. Please chain your deck/lawn furniture down, including your bbq grill.
its all alot hype, nothing really is going to happen. just going to be a regular thunderstorm!!
thank you for your words of wisdom.. hopefully people are smart enough not to listen to you and prepare for the hurricane… please keep ur SMART comments to yourself!!
should we evacuate ?
Cheif Lawson is appreciated by everyone in Lakewood. When ever he makes an a announcement it’s pearls of wisdom.
Maybe #21 smarty pants should watch the weather channel, this is a very serious storm .
Chief Lawson says “Very possibly 100mph winds”
He claims that we could be hit with a Category 2 Hurricane.
He advises stocking up on as much as a week’s supply.
Although the forecasts are changing currently the National Weather Center has detailed wind speed probability predictions for our area with a 95% CHANCE on each of Sunday and Monday that IRENE WILL ONLY BE A TROPICAL STORM and NOT A HURRICANE AND its winds will be LESS THAN 74 mph. (To be classified as a Hurricane winds have to be more than 74 mph). The chance that its winds would be 100mph on either Sunday or Monday is far, far, less than 5%. The chance of the winds even reaching 58mph is only 22%.

to 26 theres still a chance
DOUGIE’S BBQ of Deal, NJ will be open before, during, and after the storm for dine in, take out, and delivery. We will also be delivering to monmouth hospitol and jersey shore hospitol if you have family/friends there that need food
History: Sept 5, 1944 there was an earthquake in the Northeast. Sept 13,-14 1944 Great Atlantic Hurricane hit East Coast – Hurricane Irene
thank you for posting the video through Vimeo, my filter blocks YouTube.
to 21 u r spewing foolish garbage evryone just listen to what the cheif said and evrything will be fine bezras hashem
hashem is trying too make us doo teshuva enough hocking and beating around the bush JUST DO TESHUVA
Tehillim Kuf Zayim might seem particularly germaine. The Alshich finds fault in his commentary to this koppitel with those who are aware of an impending storm and do not pray prior to it that it should be lessened.
Nothing will happen in lakewood, Its a befherush zach a zadik does not get harmed all folks in lakewood are zadikim so i dont worry abit its like the saying, es vet gein mit the wind
anybody know where a good place would be to evacuate? Close as possible.
#32 you couldn’t br more right and i”m dead serious!! Do teshuvah!
This is a wonderful gelegenheit to show ur kids the yad Hachazakah. Goto the ocean Sunday after Brefkist. The waves will be amazing, the sheer force breathtaking and the scene astonishing. It’ll be the perfect Mussar wakeup for a few days before Elul.
BURGLARS WILL BE OUT & ABOUT IN AREA’S THAT WILL EVACUATE.
-SO IF YOU LIVE IN THOSE AREA’S, OR ARE PLANING TO LEAVE, PLEASE TAKE OR AT LEAST SECURE VIA A ‘SAFE’ ALL YOUR VERY-VERY PRIZED & VALUABLE POSSESSIONS. (that includes any documents/passports)
Rabosi stop over reacting
i bet the developments will still have the sprinklers on
Rarely is a storm as bad as they say it will be, though it’s always good to be prepared. I have enough water, batteries, and lights for 5 hurricanes. But by golly, I am saving the receipts.
Till what time tomorow will the scoop give updates on the storm
Its time the scoop had a detailed forcast especialy b4 a storm. but bichlal it would be nice if the scoop had a weather banner as most ppl stop here for local news etc.
What is being done to prevent looting and violence.? NYC had a black out years ago & there was looting and rioting. I am concerned
Is LPD prepared for a post storm looting Scenario
run run run
