Student Arrested At High School As District Switches Security

PHOTOS: A juvenile student of the Lakewood High School was arrested this afternoon following a fight, police tell TLS. The fight occurred shortly before 2:00 PM, and reportedly involved several students.

Multiple officers – including Captain Greg Meyer and Detectives – responded to the school.

Police say the fight may have been in response to the termination of the contract with the school’s security guards, which ended today.

As earlier reported, the district’s security will now be provided by off-duty officers.

There were no reports of any injuries in the fight. TLS-CCP/TLS-MK.

  1. I was at a few basketball games where the old “so called” security was at. Sloppiest bunch I’ve ever seen, and they were supposed to handle problems….ya right!!

  2. Those fake retired cops were scare 2 brake up a fight 2 day. The school had 3 of them & they didn’t brake not 1 at all. All they did was watch. More to come tomorrow they better b ready. They only have 2 retired cops n 1200 student. They won’t last not 1 bit.

  3. I think Stillwell’s Posse will be able to handle it. Keep in mind he is a smart man, he’s also been around and worked the streets of lakewood for a very long time.

  4. I am shocked at the Lakewood HS Students who have commented on this post. The writing skills demonstrated are that of a first grader. The school system has clearly failed them.

And why do you say “the school system failed THEM”? I think THEY failed the school system. Let’s not blame everything on someone else.

  6. Well if the Board (edited) didn’t fire these guards while they were in the middle of a school day, during the middle of the school year there wouldn’t have been any problems today. And I also heard on a few accounts today that the new security team just stood there and let it go, until police arrived. way to go board

  7. Ok lets blame everyone for those students who decided to disrupt the school today.. Teachers, Board Members, Security,, everyone except those who did the fighting,, Stay home if you don’t like the way things are,,you are kids start growing up and for once listen to an adult instead of someone putting peer presure on you,, and give Mr. Stillwell a chance maybe even go up to him and say hello. I’m sure as long as I have known him he will say hello and even become your friend

  8. Realistically these children are set up for failure. As a parent of a children who attended Lakewood public schools from kindergarten throughout High School, I can personally attest to the fact that blame can be shared all around. My son has actually substituted for the middle school and was utterly appalled by the fact there seems to be total disregard from the students concerning school work, lack of respect toward staff, peers and self. It was also observed that many teachers had an incredibly indifferent attitude toward their job. The census appears to be, ‘ if the kids don’t care, why should I ?” It was very disheartening, not to mention, depressing. This is what Lakewood schools today reflect and it is validated by the fact Lakewood has one of the lowest, if not THE LOWEST rate of High School graduates.

  9. i feel so bad for these kids, being so cooped up in a prison–let them go out and be free–open up the ball fields and let them play and frolic around-

  10. Dont blame eveything on the board , the students do this to themselves. The BOE’s job is to help the schools in the district and if the students are not willing to cooperate then these are the outcomes…

  11. To *&#?! – Most of the teachers care and work so hard. Unfortunately, there are some that use the district as a stepping stone to go somewhere else. Perhaps those are the ones that dont care an leave. The ones that stay care, they have work to do and cannot leave without doing it. They know they are needed.
