Jahmell Crockam, sentenced in March to life in prison without parole for killing Lakewood Police Officer Chris Matlosz, will be tried next year for the second murder he’s suspected of committing, the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office tells TLS.
Crockam is accused of killing Justin Williams, 20, in October, 2010. Williams, also known as “Prodigy,” was found shot to death on Westwood Avenue in Lakewood, as first reported here. (See photos of scene). Crockam, along with co-defendant Darius Johnson, were indicted for the murder in May, 2011, and charged with conspiring to murder, unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for unlawful purposes.
Prosecutors have blocked out the month of June, 2013 for the trial, which could take up to 6-8 weeks, the Assistant Prosecutor said. A conference is expected to be held within the next month to set up an exact date for the trial to begin.

Even if found innocent on the Williams murder, Crockam will remian in prison for the rest of his life, with no chance of parole. TLS.
What a waste of taxpayer money. He will spend the rest of his life in jail and if found guilty what else can they do to him.
Just curious, whats the point in this trial? it cost tax payers money and it will not change the outcome. he will rot in jail for the rest of his life without the chance of parole. so this trial, even if found guilt, will not change his sentence.
please explain the purpose.
I would have to imagine it has something to do with victims family. I would have to assume that this gives them closure. But yes if you only look at it on the surface it seems a waste of money
If somewhere down the line, somehow some attorney files an appeal that the trial and evidence in the Matlosz killing were not valid. And a judge agrees, he will still sit behind bars if found guilty of this murder
You never know. Something could have happened in the first trial that could result in an appeal and a overturned conviction. Maybe someone from his legal team had an inappropriate relationship with a family member or something crazy like that.
That being said, why not secure a second conviction to assure the cold blooded killer will never see daylight again.
and we are keeping this killer alive in jail for what? free tv,food, medical, dental,learning, no bills to pay. I’m sure the families that have been ruined by this piece of human garbage must feel so much better!
I say kill him now and kill him fast just like he did to those two innocent lives. EVERYONE needs to vote to bring back the death penalty
now if you had the late mister Williams trial first and sentence crockam to life. Would the people still be talking about wasting the tax payer money on 2nd trial for the of cops murder mister Matlosz. Both murdered victims familY deserve to have closer. One more thing its taking so long to have mister Williams trial was it his life taking first 3 years later now we’re going to have his trial ! (Think about it) Baam
