  1. Stop calling the police every time you see something like that!!!

There is a garbage bag outside my house (a few of them!!)
Should I call in the bomb squad??

  2. … and if this garbage bag did contain something dangerous, would anyone here be scratching their heads wondering why someone called!? No, everyopne would be praising the person with the sharp eye, as well as the responders. There would be praises heaped upon any individual/organization involved in catching and preventing a problem or tragedy. According to reports, this bag was not near a residence or trash bin, so it was a bit incongruous. In israel this would have been treated seriously. Has it been so long since we have heard of terrorist threats and indeed experienced the terror ourselves that we can now make fun of taking precautions? Is Lakewood not a target on a terrorist map (well known for its large population of Orthodox jews)? I do see the humor in it AFTER the situation was resolved and the outcome was benign. However, PLEASE do not treat this response with ridicule. Remember, in Mes. Rosh hashana it is brought down that R’ Gamliel and the Chachamim allowed travel on Shabbos because they feared that if witnesses were turned away, they would stop coming to declare rosh chodesh. If we ridicule perceptive and caring individuals for every false alarm (IN HINDSIGHT), how can we expect people to be vigilant and say/do something in case of CH”V a real emergency!?
