FIRST REPORT: Yeshivah Nesivos Ohr will be closing down, TLS has learned. The following is an Email sent to the parents of the more than 150 boys who are now left without a yeshiva for next year. The Yeshiva has been struggling for the last few years despite its stellar reputation, and top notch staff of Rebbeim. A small group of parents worked tirelessly to help save the school, but to no avail. They are now hoping the other Mosdos in town will absorb the impact.
“Dear Fellow Yeshiva Nesivos Ohr Parents,
It is with a heavy heart that we write this letter to inform you that Yeshiva Nesivos Ohr will not be re-opening this Elul.
Over the last 6 months, we have worked to do what we could to keep the yeshiva’s dream alive. We have been aided enormously by numerous extraordinary Askanim, However, the deficit has proven too large, and we were unable to find an appropriate individual to lead the yeshiva to success in the coming years.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for rising to the occasion, for pitching in in a way that showed your dedication to your children’s well-being. One of the things that became evident as we looked to find the appropriate individual to take on our Mossad, was that our parents are one of our school’s greatest assets.
Lastly, we would like to give a big Y’asher Koach to each and every Rebbi and Teacher, and our wonderful office staff. Throughout an extraordinarily difficult time, they kept the focus on what was real – our children’s chinuch, and our boys’ success. They went well beyond the call of duty to rise above a difficult situation and minimize the impact on our boys, and for that we are extremely grateful.
We apologize for the late date of this letter – up until this week, we have all been doing our best to keep the dream of our Mossad alive. However, as the school-year approaches, we are left with no choice but to share this difficult news and to allow us all the opportunity to make plans for the future.

WATCH IT START HAPPENING & CONTINUE as brooklyn has closed down a few schools, Lakewood has also closed down schools & so has monsey & many other town worldwide….
money issues are very real yes the boys’ chinuch is the main focus. however lets be real will other schools really accept these beautiful boys? how many of them will be watching their friends and neighbors boarding buses? What about it all schools delay their opening to ensure that all these precious children are placed? We are the ir hakodesh. Yidden are to openly help each other. To know that your actions reduced someone else’s tzar is an incredible feeling. What a lesson to demonstrate to all the children of Lakewood.
Starting first with many other schools that have already closed R”L in lakewood & now with this yeshiva. there can only be one main reason why this is all happening:
these kind of things happening & people being Niftar at young ages or in strange ways R”L are all wake up call to klal yisroel that we only care about ourselves, but when it comes to helping/caring for another yid then i cannot help you.
with that being the case, each time tragedy strikes Hashem has the same question-for each person separately-now you have woken up, now you are crying at this baby’s levaya R”L but when we hear of someone else in tragic cases… we dont care. hashem then wants to know if we will wake up now to help others or do we need another tragic WAKE-UP call from hashem C”V to care for one another?
MAY all schools open up for these 150 innocent boys & parents & show Hashem that we DO CARE for them & may it be a z’chus for mashiach to come ASAP

Just to clarify, my children were in this school. The 1 and only reason the yeshiva is closing is because a few years ago they ran into debt. It just kept getting worse; and therefore we are in this predicament. The rebbeim were absolutely amazing! My sons loved every day of yeshiva and they are all very upset that they have to go to another yeshiva. And yes, #2 I sure hope the yeshivos will have compassion for these innocent children and accept them with open arms. Obviously it will be a huge challenge, but like you say we are yidden and are supposed to help each other out in times of need. All the best

If it was a yeshiva for sick kids rl there would be fundraisers galore bike a thons jogging thons and an endless supply of people who would happily solicit everyone they know for donations. Since it’s just regular kids who need a Torah education no one cares. Our priorities are messed up and no one is willing to say it.
yes i do agree that we as a community need to heed the word of Hashem. what a lesson would it be to show concern for these 150 innocent boys and the wonderful and dedicated rebbeim. every yid regardless of affiliation or observance level is a yid. each of us could be represented by millions of puzzle pieces. in order for the picture to be complete each piece must be used and each is just as important as the next. lets complete that puzzle and show the importance of ahavas yisroel let this be the last time that this type of action is needed. gut voch
You know what my pet goldfish died this shabbos….so I guess that is a sign that we will have a fish shortage in the upcoming geula for Moshiach….. oh wait I’m being ridiculous. Point being, this is going to be a very hard tekufah for these students and Rebbiem (who will have to look for a job after all worthwhile positions have been filled at this point) and that should be the focus here. Is this a sign for Moshiach? Could be, maybe or just an overused term that is becoming so redundant that people are tired of the message given for every pitfall. Yes! Moshiach is coming but leave the message to be given from our gedolem and keep the focus here to find solutions for these 150 boys and maybe a little chizuk as well.

Let’s be realistic, NO the existing yeshivas should NOT absorb these boys, how can you add more boys to existing classes already bursting?, the right thing would be to get askonim or someone like rabbi kanarek to take over the school and keep the rebbiem at work and the school children at their school avoiding the change that can badly affect them.
My own personal eitzah, the parents should speak with Rav Shlomo Chaim Kanarek he has helped when this happened to my sons school and I’m sure he would be happy to help the parents of YNO too!! Rav Kanarek is a true tzaddik and is always there to assist when it comes to the chinuch of Lakewoods Tinoko She’ll Bais Rabon

I am so glad we have the Lakewood Scoop. It puts us in such close proximity to such wonderful neviim! I mean how else would I know what Hashem wants from me without Yehuda, Chaim Dovid and the rest of these “know-it-all” speakers for Hashem?
Some comments on here are just pathetic and it’s pretty obvious which ones I’m referring to. I feel terrible for these families who have Children in that school. Please note the comment about the special needs school having fundraisers- did you stop and think that having a special needs child is not like having a child without special needs? It is a lot of extra work on the parents and school they attend than a regular child.
Having your child’s school close is very difficult but please think before you speak and compare it to a special needs child’s school. How extremely insensitive.

Theodore Hertzel also thought that the solution to the Jewish problem is Aliyah. This week is the Yurtzeit of the Heilige Rebbe Zy”a (the holy Satmar Ruv). He believed that no one should make Aliyah to Eretz Yisruel. By the way, the % of kids at risk from Americans that made Aliyah is very very high. no one should make Aliyah without consulting an Adam Godol (that has no Zionistic inclinations).

What we need is 100% school vouchers for all!!!! Here in PA they are starting it on a limited basis, unfortunately most of the frum community in Philadelphia with younger kids are not eligible for it because it is also tied to your local public schools performance. School vouchers are the solution to the fiscal problems of Jewish day schools.

wats the point of putting out this letter to the public why does the world need to know a school is closing down its a chilul hashem when a yeshiva is forced to close down its like a churban habayis. you really think some wealthy person will find this on tls and call up and drop off hundreds of thousands of $$$$$ to save the yeshiva???? just dont get the point of advertising such news that is so painfull and a chilul hashem at large

this is tragic news. many points could be made here. I want to touch on only a couple. 1.) the middos hadin seems to have prevailed here. 2.) no amount of strong arm tactics can force parents to pay money they don’t have. 3.) we need to abolish the “private school” excuse for being selective in admissions and start having community based schools where the entire community is responsible, not one or two “super askonim”. 4.) if our town would get together biachdus we could solve these problems. This nation of ours runs on nissim not numbers. We just have to do Hashem Yisborach’s bidding ..What do I ask of you but that you love one another…

The solution here is simple. If schools are created with financially sound boards, that have the power and decision in all matters of the school including curriculum and admissions, the board would be responsible to make the school fiscally work too.
When schools are created with one devoted individual, who has complete power, he will tire out at some point & loses the ability to raise money as a monarch and the school dwindles out from there.
Can someone advise who parents should calll to get their kids in another yeshiva. The yeshiva did not tell us what to do. Thanks in advance.

If every yid would donate just one dollar…….. Why not start an online fundraiser and see how far we can get. We’ve done it after numerous tragedies. Why not for Torah?

Do you really think that the askonim who have been running this school for the last six months did not try to turn over every single stone in town to save the school, and you geniuses offer these great ideas ke’leacher yad? You guys should be on the Va’ad, and no school will ever have any more problems.
#2 Lakewood Resident, calling Lakewood “the ir hakodesh” is lashon hara against E”Y. You may think you live in ir hakodesh, but remember even the most shkotzy places of Tel Aviv have more kedusha than Lakewood.
Instead of posting all of these ridiculous comments, why not focus on what’s important, like placing these boys into yeshiva.
Transplanting half full classes into another yeshiva building, while still isolating the boys is NOT an answer to the problem. Please stop coming up with semi-feasible solutions and let the past die.
These boys deserve to be in a normal yeshiva situation. Please, beg the school owners to open their hearts and their doors and just absorb the boys who remain. If the town works together these boys could be placed.

#11- do you realize what it means to have a sick child? How the whole family is disrupted, changed, altered forever? Do you know what it is like putting your whole family on hold, awaiting test results or awaiting to see if the medication will help? C”V you should ever know what it is like to watch a child pass away, or worry nightly that your child may not make it through the week.
The mosdos that work to help these families are well worth every tzeddakah dollar spent! hopefully you never need to know the need.
To help your schools, why don’t you try to run the schools responsibly? get a real accountant in to see where all the money is coming from and going. Maybe you can do with less staff. Less expensive trips. Less extra-curricular (plays, sports, art) until you can meet payroll and cover all your expenses without fundraising.
At the end of the day, if a school runs out of money then it has to close, that is the responsible thing to do, otherwise teachers don’t get paid and kids get shut out mid-year. So this needs to be (yet another) wake up call. And the real question that needs to be answers are what the actual cost per child was, how much parents were paying in tuition, what percentage of the parent body actually p[aid the full amount, and what breaks were given to those in kollel.
