[UPDATED-LEVAYA INFO] Baruch Dayan Ha’emes: We regret to inform you of the Petirah of Reb Shmuel Kunda Z’L, who was Niftar this evening following a lengthy illness.The unusually talented Reb Shmuel Z’L, educated tens of thousands of children worldwide through his popular children’s books and music CDs. He was approximately 65 years old.
Reb Shmuel Z’L, who resided with family in Lakewood the last few years after becoming ill, was Niftar in Cleveland. His wife, Naomi A’H, was Niftar in 2010.
The Levaya will be taking place tomorrow in Lakewood, and the Kevura will be taking place in Eretz Yisroel. Exact times will be published when available.

UPDATE: The Levaya will tentatively be taking plate at 1 PM, at the 7th Street Chapel.
The Aron will then be taken to JFK, where a Levaya will be held at 4:30 PM at Elal Cargo B, Building 23.
A Levaya will also be held in Eretz Yisroel at 2 PM on Thursday, at the Har Hamenuchos parking lot.

BD”E. I remember him way back in camp Naarim. He was an amazing person. I would walk the streets of boro park and he would stop me and remember who I was eventhough he had seen so many people over his life. He will surely be missed.

Although I never met him in person, I absolutely loved his tapes and DVDs and would never get bored of listening to them over and over again. What talent! What a great sense of humor! Rare indeed! May all the many z’chuyos he accumulated on this earth accompany him to his Oilom Ha’bo. BDE

I know his songs by heart! Our family loved the Zeidy series, don’t forget the longest pesach, the talking coins and baruch series. His ability to captivate everyone in our family was impressive. Bd’h!

Reb Shmuel Ztz’l was one of the greatest heroes from my childhood. He was an extremely talented educator, story teller, singer and artist. He was also the owner of our Sleepover camp and the highlight of each week was on Shabbos afternoon when hundreds of kids would gather around him on the steps outside the camp Naarim dining room for the most fascinating story. It was always hysterical and kept us laughing for hours. The most important thing though was that he was able to instill values and Emunah within us in a way that we kept begging for more. His on the spot grammen at the end of color war were world renowned and helped even the losing team to cherish the moment.
A few years ago our shul brought him to speak for the kids and it brought back all the old memories of a time long gone. After the story I asked him to draw something for my children and within just a couple of minutes he had drawn the most amazing caricature from one of his story tapes. We still have that drawing, signed by him and with a loving message to my sons.
Although he will be sorely missed, his stories and songs, which helped mold the childhoods of thousands of you children, will forever be remembered. There goes the trolly…..

There are few homes in the national frum community that have not been enhanced by the warm, witty, entertaining style of Rabbi Kunda and his books, tapes, and videos. Additionally, so many of us spent their formative childhood and adolescent summers in the friendly and thrilling confines of Camp Na’arim where our personalities were molded and talents developed.

Rabbi Shmuel Kunda’s ability to connect and teach children (and yes, us adults as well) in a Toiredigeh, meaningful, and truly entertaining way, is without compare, period. No one came close to his awesome talents. His tapes are timeless, they’re classics, and nothing out there comes close to the witty and smart dialogue, songs, and messages that apply to every generation. I venture to say that his influence on our tinoikes shel beis rabbon all over the world is unprecedented. I’m guessing, but I wouldn’t be surprised if at least 80% of ALL our kinderlech have listened to some or all of his tapes or read his books. Although many of his tapes were made many years ago, they continuously stand the test of time, because they all deliver pure torah messages given over with humor, warmth, and love…something we recognize is essential to raise nachasdisgeh children. I also had the zchus to know him, and he was such a special and fine person, and tzadik in our times. He will be missed immensely. May his family be consoled in knowing that his tremendously positive influence on our children will continue and live on as his tapes and books will continue to be discovered by future generations. i turn on his cd’s when i want a change in mood. they are such happy cd’s, i have a bunch of my own kids but i sometimes turn on his cd’s for myself!!
R’ Shmuel, my family and I will miss you dearly. In fact, this morning when I shared the painful news with my eight year old daughter she started to cry…we are all crying! We will miss you so much but fortunately you left behind a rich legacy which has and will continue to inspire us until we reunite with the coming of Moshiach.
Rav Shmuel Kunda was also a Big Talmid Chochum he was Born in Shanghai China he was a Talmid of the Mir Yeshiva in Broklyn ny he would spend many hours learning every day he would also learn in Yeshiva Derech Chaim in Boro Park when he had time in the afternoon
