Unsigned Letter In Williamsburg Calls For Ban on Tonight’s RCCS Live Auction

PHOTO: A letter circulating and hanging yesterday in Williamsburg called for its residents to ban tonight’s live RCCS auction. The letter, which was not signed by any Rabbonim, asked Williamsburg residents to call the organization and demand answers as to why they are providing ‘entertainment’ and ‘singers’ – causing people to watch the live stream on the ‘dirty Internet’.

“On one hand you are trying to make people healthy and with the other hand you are making people sick”, the letter in Yiddish read.

The non-profit organization since 1997, has been providing an array of services for cancer-stricken patients in need, primarily by subsidizing health insurance premiums. TLS-NB.

  1. cant say they are totally wrong. with all the opposition to the internet coming from the heimishe olam, its seems a bit hypercritical to use “the yetzer horas tool” as a fundraising medium. but that’s the way things are in this dor…

  2. To LWS: I can’t understand why you post a letter from a nobody, without any rabbonim signed on to it, or even the nobody himself. Who really cares what this nobody has to say?

  3. what do ya mean “what’s with williamsburg?” can you even keep count of how many things have been unofficially banned right here in Lakewood over the years that were more kosher than this? do you remember what happened a few years back with the (moderated) for women?everyone here was banning it left and right and it had nothing to do with internet. some people just like to feel frummer than everyone else and don’t even bother to ask daas torah first. and anyway if they have a problem with them streaming over the internet with entertainment then why not ban all the other organizations that do the same thing. oorah’s been doing it for years and no one’s said a thing.

  4. #2 they are totally wrong first of all tey have many donors who are not from the heimishe communities besides that there are many people that have internet for other reasons and have filters nothing wrong with that

  5. a) they are right but they can listen on the telephone call in line they dont need to watch the internet
b)the organization does tremendous work for jews in every community including williamsburg, to come out and assur the whole evening w/o any signatures is puzzling will they assur as well to take money or benefits from rccs as well?
its good to be frum but not farfrumet/farkrumt
if they mean leshaym shumayim why didnt they approach the organization from the get go and why isnt the notice signed ??
seems like a few individuals decided to take things in to their own hands lmann hashem
besides their are jews all over the world who can join if willi doesnt beleive in the internet kol hakovod but why should the rest of the jewish community be left out ??
isnt it even better for one to watch this on the internet then other things veday lmayvin??

  6. Thanks Mr. Anonymous Williamsburg man. Just went onto the “evil” internet and donated $100 to RCCS. Appreciate all the great PR you are bringing this amazing organization.

  7. why do people try and run the lives of others ,if you dont like something then dont be involved, if you dont like what a radio station is saying turnit off if you dont like what is on a certain channel in TV turn it off, but dont tell others how to run their lives ! this is America remeber?

  8. I don’t think anyone signed up today for internet service in order to watch the auction. We live in a world today where internet is part of our lives and although I do agree that we all need filters, it is impossible to say don’t use it. Rather teach the young generations about filters than telling them no. It won’t work anyway.
