LPD Hires 2 New Full-Time Police Officers

The Lakewood Police Department has hired two new full-time police officers, Police Chief Rob Lawson tells TLS. Female Officer Kristie Buble is a lateral transfer from the Monmouth County Sheriffs Department, and Patrolman Mathew Muniz is lateral transfer from Carteret, New Jersey.

The new officers repalce the senior – retiring officers,

By hiring officers transferred from other departments rather than newly sworn-in officers, the Township saves on training time, as the officers only require in-house training before hitting the roads, the Chief says.

The officers, hired last week, will begin this week to ride with Training Officers, and then be evaluated as to when they can ride on their own.

The department also recently hired three Special Class 2 officers, which are mainly used for Court and other light duties to free up the other officers for the roads.

The two new hires brings the total number of Lakewood Police Officers to 117, for the population of about of 92,843 according to the most recent census.

In comparison, Brick Township, which has a population of 75,072 according to the most recent census, has a force of approximately 125 officers. Toms River, which according to the same census has a population of 91,239, and has a police force of approximately 153 officers. TLS.

  1. More officers = more tickets

Why is our new mayor allowing Lawson to spend all this money?

Why are there do many police cars always sitting around town doubled up schmoozing?

  2. those towns have more crime than lakewood which has more ticket writing work , maybe its time lakewood hire traffic officers which get paid less thaan regular officers just like in ny and free up officers for crime etc..

  3. Sounds Great !

Is there a protocol for assessing the Need for new officers ?

Or its an automatic hiring, the the PD has thr right to hire more officers.

I’m sure every one is for hiring new police officers, after all who is against having more police ??

Come to thing of it following this [feel good] logic, maybe we should double or triple the size of the PD. After all, you cant be too safe !

We must realize, any hiring of a [union] civil servant, is not just a hiring for now. It is a commitment of large $$ for many many years to come. The pension & medical benefits in 50 years from now, can be many times higher than the “reasonable” Salary [Well deserved ] That Civil Servants earn.

I suggest people should do a little research in the Postal Service annual Multi Billion Dollar Defecits, even after they raise the rates seemingly 2 times a year.

Yes, it is the Medical Benefits that were agreed upon over 40 years ago, that is rendering the Postal service BANCRUPT.

There are many such examples, such as GM and many more “short sighted-driven by feel good management” that ends up slurping out every last nickel from The entity, then passed on to the public at large.

Bottom line- Who & based on what made an makes these Decisions. It seems like the taxpaying public can just spec tate from the sidelines.

As a wise man once said

“Who is a smart man-One that foresees the yet to come”.

Statistics show that Lakewood has the highest crime rate in Ocean County and writes the fewest tickets per capita so your statement is completely backwards. A substantial portion of the calls for service in other towns in this county are motor vehicle stops while Lakewood is legit crimes. Statistics shouldn’t even be needed for that to be understood, simple observation shows the Lakewood police rarely make motor vehicle stops. Lakewood doesn’t need “traffic officers” they need officers that can help lower the more legitimate crime rate as well as make traffic stops (of course the tickets will just be thrown out in court, why do you think the LPD doesn’t write tickets anyway).

  5. SIMON… Please give data that shows that there is less crime in Lakewood than Brick and Toms River.
I can’t believe that to be fact so please prove me wrong.

Lakewood is not a sleepy, safe, quiet town. It was once but it has become the armpit of Ocean County.

Lakewood needs more police who are free to arrest and ticket. Walk and drive around town. It is a battlefield. I feel like my safety is always at risk.

  6. the other towns have more crime then Lakewood that has to be one of the funnest jokes I have seen yet. That was funny Simon! Lakewood has the most crime out of all the surrounding towns everyone knows that

    REALLY get a life

  8. If you want the truth on crime google FBI UCR reports or UCR reports for NJ . You will see that Lakewood has crime statistics similiar those of major city’s . Fare great crime then Brick or TomsRiver. You can also research motor vehicle tickets and you will see Lakewood Police officers give fare less tickets then Brick or TomsRiver. The scoop should post this information with the web page links so the public will know he truth.
More police officers means less crime.

  9. I have an idea, have the new officers spend the first year writing tickets only. This way the new officers will get to meet the public and see what we are like, this will also help offset the cost of these new officers.

  10. The way people drive in lakewood they are lucky we are not like other police dept that hammer hammer hammer tickets and have quotas!!!!! Drive through toms river and Manchester the way you do here and see how many tickets you get

  11. Very true, the people of Lakewood don’t realize how good they have it. Considering that the driving is horrendous, there could be a lot more tickets issued.
