Joe Was Right-We Need to Change Our Relationship With Food

By Ezi Levi: Every article that I have written for TLS has been followed by an e mail from Joe. Joe wants me to stop giving tips on how to “diet” and to tell everyone that if we just change our relationship with food, we would be fine… and you know what? He is absolutely right!

Dieting is temporary- being healthy is long term- and better for you!

Why do people diet? It’s because they think that there is some quick fix, magical solution to losing weight quickly! They think “we don’t have to change our mindset on the way we eat, or what processed food, stress, lack of sleep or lack of physical activity does to our bodies”.They think, “let’s stop eating carbs, or let’s stop eating ALL fats, or let’s check out the latest fad diet”. Or maybe they try going to the gym for an hour or two everyday until they injure themselves or get bored of it.

They do this for a few weeks at best, until the point that their bodies can’t take the lack of nutrients that they need. What happens next, is that they get crazy cravings and BINGE uncontrollably, and before they know it, the weight has piled on again… plus some.

Healthy eating and living habits, is much more than just food intake- it is a “lifestyle ” change- which means that it is for the long run. It is not just for a few weeks and then back to your old eating habits.

Don’t get me wrong, it takes approximately six months, at least, to make something “habitual” so you need to put healthy eating- and living -habits into practice.

So how do you do this? By working with someone professional (like a diet coach or nutritionist)or someone that you know who has done it for the long term who can guide you . There are also plenty of books out there that you can read. Most importantly-it’s about experimenting with what works FOR YOU- remember BIOINDIVIDUALITY.

More on that in my next article BE”H…

Success story:

Approximately 3 weeks before Pesach “Y”came to me but he was concerned about starting his journey right before Pesach. I told him that this was the best time to start, as long as he was committed. Guess what?! “Y” has had steady weight loss EVERY WEEK including Pesach! I recently met him at a wedding. He says he feels great! He was proud to show off that he was wearing a suit that he hadn’t worn in 9 months, and that he has moved two notches on his belt (in the right direction!). Most importantly, he is really incorporating the healthy habits that we have been talking about.

Great job Y!! Keep up the good work!!
