Man Who Killed Self at Shooting Range Was Former Corrections Officer

The man who committed suicide at the shooting range in Lakewood yesterday, was a former NJ Department of Corrections Officer, the Ocean County Prosector’s Office tells TLS.

The man, whose name has not yet been released, was on Workers Compensation since September, 2012.

Prosecutors say the man was on his own when he rented a gun at the range, and took his own life. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 5:02 PM. [TLS]

  1. Can you imagine what someone must be going through to move him to take his own life?! its terrible, it just further proves what we are missing proper mental health intervention, we have become so obsessed with safety that we hear someones a danger to himself or others the authorities come confiscate is guns, and then everyone “feel” safe. How about thinking about what the person himself is going through and help him its all about putting him in a box so that we “feel” good or “feel” safe

  2. Well said #3! It’s very said and we may never understand what goes through their mind. We should never judge some one either. Many people judge those who commit suicide. However, he definitly thought about it enough to have planned out what he was going to do.

  3. THE RIGHT PLAN: giving people ample mental health help
    THE DEMOCRATS PLAN: ban guns

do the dems really think this person wouldn’t have jumped in front of a train, truck, or bus? do they think people don’t hang themselves? do they not know how many of our young people now a days overdose purposely and die? its not guns!! its our society that’s crumbling. we MUST figure out why our society is breaking down. MAYBE ITS DUE TO THE LACK OF MORAL BOUNDARIES EVERYONE LOVES SO MUCH?

  4. It is truely sad..and in NJ it is so hard to get mental health treatment..no providers take ins and they erronously charge obnoxious amounts of money..then your scripts cost to much as well..people who want help, can’t get help here in nj..I don’t even know of one program to assist w mental health treatment..you have to be really poor to receive treatment or wealthly to afford it..

  5. Oh my gosh. I never would have thought he was a corrections officer. It’s sad for whatever reason he ended his life. What his family must be going through.

  6. Such a sad act of desperation…thinking there is no other solution to life’s problems. But really, Mr. Conservative, must politics be brought into it? Do you think morals are are only held by Republicans? Such ignorance is appalling. And it has nothing to do with political leanings.

  7. ” Do you think morals are are only held by Republicans?” — no, but the right seems to have more morals than the left. we are not the ones trying to push indecency, immoral behavior, and and perversion into mainstream life. nice try though.

  8. He was a good man, may he rest in piece, the stresses of everyday life, and going to work everyday to fight with the worst of the worst.

  9. As someone who knows one of his relatives, I am so terribly sorry for the family and friends’ loss. I hope that any pain or struggle he was experiencing is now gone and he is in a better place. Rest in Peace. Thoughts and prayers go out to those affected by the loss of this life.

  10. As someone who knew him and his family it is truly a heartache and such a horrible thing to comprehend!!! May he rest in peace and may The Lord watch over his family! It truly a sad day!

  11. Prayers go out to the family of this individual. So sad that he chose to take his life. A job that deals with inmates on a daily basis is def no picnic. Negativity all around him, let alone other situations he may have been dealing with. May he rest in peace.

  12. As a member of state law enforcement and a friend of this person, I would just like to say my thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends during these very tough times.
