[PERMIT APPLICATION] The Ocean County Fire Marshal’s Office is asking the Lakewood Community that if they are planning to have a Lag Baomer fire on Saturday night April 27 or Sunday April 28, to please follow the information below, submitted by their office:
They must submit a permit application with a $42.00 fee (check or money order) to our Office by 12:00 PM on Wednesday, April 24, so that our staff can visit the sites prior to the fires commencing, to make sure they meet all of the bonfire requirements and make notice to the proper agencies (Lakewood Police and Fire Depts). We are providing an Ocean County Fire Marshal’s Office Permit application and Bonfire Regulations in the local newspapers for your convenience. They can be dropped off at our Office at Ocean County Park 659 Ocean Ave Lakewood Monday – Friday 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM.
You must also contact the NJ Forest Fire Service for a Burn Permit 609-726-9010.
We are asking that you follow the bonfire regulations and set up a 10’ – 15’ safety area around the bonfire (depending on the bonfire size) for protection of the attendees to watch the fire safely.
You must use clean wood, use no flammable liquids to start the fire, have a garden hose with a good water source to be able to extinguish and manage the fire.
Do not start the fire until a Fire Marshal has inspected your site and given approval to light it.
Anyone who does not have an approved Permit will have their fire extinguished and can be subject to penalties for the extinguishment.
For questions, call the Fire Marshal’s office at 732-370-7360 Monday – Friday 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM.
Thank to the fire department for being so efficient and caring about our safety on Lag B’Omer. Now if they will do the same in Tent City , and enforce the permit requirement for making fires, we all can be law abiding citizens.
We have become such a paranoid society. Everything needs permits including burning chametz in your backyard garbage cans which we all did as kids. I am sure if not yet campfires that we had so much fun making and roasting marshmellows on while require permits too.
Please consider this excellent report from today’s issue of the Burlington County Times, the paper of record in neighboring Burlington County when considering the careful preparation that needs to go into a bonfire:
“TRENTON — With spring wildfire season here, including a fire that consumed more than 150 acres in Burlington County over the weekend, the New Jersey Forest Fire Service on Monday urged the public to exercise extra caution.
Wildfire risk is rated high in South and Central Jersey and moderate in the northern part of the state. Risks likely will increase this week because of a forecast for increasing temperatures and continued dry conditions, officials said.
So far this year, the Forest Fire Service has responded to 230 wildfires that have burned 293 acres, compared with 461 fires that burned 1,994 acres during the same period last year, according to the service.
Last weekend, 42 wildfires were reported statewide, burning 182 acres. The largest, burning more than 150 acres in a remote section of the Wharton State Forest in the county, is under investigation.”
Caution and care are called for.

Agree with #1 …. Looks like you need a permit for a fre unless you live in tent city
Hey #1 you can thank the Democrats, for they know how we should live and how things should work, and they need some way to tax us.
#2 I know that in monsey you need for a campfire. I can imagine it is the same here to.
