UPDATED-FOUND: Search Underway for Missing Elderly Man

UPDATED 11:20 PM: [PHOTOS] Police have initiated a search this afternoon for a missing elderly Jewish man. The man, Immanuel Guthi, 74, was reported missing by his wife who last saw him about 11:45 am this morning in the Clifton Avenue area.Officials say he may have taken a walk to the area of Lake Carasaljo.

He’s described as 6′ 2′, 150 pounds, a small white beard, and is wearing a Yarmuka and a small black hat.

Chaveirim, Hatzolah, EMS, LFA, LCSW, Misaskim and Bikur Cholim have joined in the search, as well as an Ocean County’s K-9 Unit.

Anyone with information is asked to call police immediately.

UPDATE 9:45 PM. Officials say there’s a chance he may be have boarded a bus to New York. If you are in New York, please keep an extra eye out for him and notify BSSP, Brooklyn Chaveirim, or Lakewood authorities.

UPDATE 10:30 PM: LPD says the missing man reportedly left messages at his home that he’s okay, in New York, and will be headed back home to Lakewood. Police, Chaveirim and LCSW are reportedly monitoring the bus stops to make sure he gets home.

Search coordinators have asked TLS to publicly thank Glatt Gourmet for sponsoring hot dinner for the volunteers at the command post.

UPDATE 11:20 PM: Immanuel Guthi has just returned safe to his Lakewood home. He was identified on a bus by a Chaveirim and LCSW member, who then escorted him to his home.

“I just want to thank all the agencies involved and the volunteers who dropped what they were doing to begin searching,” says Captain Gregory Meyer who took off from his personal time to assist with the search. “It was great to see our community in action – great teamwork by all involved. It’s always nice to have a happy ending.”

Why didn’t he tell his wife he was going to New York? He would have saved everyone a lot of worry and trouble.

  • ck says:

the update times only make sense depending on what time he actually did leave NY. just because he left home from new york when they posted it doesn’t mean he left at that exact time. the main thing is that he’s home and safe.
