VIDEO: President Obama after Senate Blocks Gun Measures: This Was a Pretty shameful Day for Washington

VIDEO of President Obama’s statement from the Rose Garden following the Senate’s vote to block measures to reduce gun violence.

The votes, 54-46, were on a series of amendments to a broad package of gun laws pushed by Obama and Democratic leaders following the Newtown school massacre in December.

After the votes, Obama angrily criticized the NRA and senators who voted against the expanded background checks.

“90% of Americans support universal background checks,” said the President. “Think about that. How often do 90% of Americans agree on anything?”

The President added, “This was a pretty shameful day for Washington. But this effort isn’t over. Sooner or later, we are going to get this right. The memories of these children demand it. And so do the American people.”

  1. “This was a pretty shameful day for Washington” – why because the senate doesnt agree with your policies? so now its shameful to disagree? its shameful that you think anyone who doesnt agree with you is shameful.

  2. “90% of Americans support universal background checks,” said the President.

From what I’ve been reading 90% of the people do NOT want universal background checks. That guy can’t ever get his numbers correct.

  3. With democrats its not about gun control – its just about control. They are not dumb – they know the majority of gun crimes are committed with PISTOLS. yet they target military styled rifles?

The only reason they want military style rifles out of the hands of civilians – is so when they order DHS (in their 2700 MRAP’s) & the military to come to take control (like what happened in germany) WE THE PEOPLE wont be able to fight back. We would be out gunned and will be forced to succumb to the government forces. But since we do have the same 5.56 & 7.62 rounds and rifles to fire those powerful rounds – the feds are more reluctant to just simply walk into town and declare their rule/martial law.

look at new orleans during Katrina – they declared martial law and walked around confiscating guns. they arrested innocent people in their own homes and searched every house. the military was deployed and got wind that local cops were raping women, stealing food & water for their own families, etc. no one fought back. an 80yr old woman was beat up by the cops on camera (video available on youtube) for simply holding an unloaded gun.

  4. No Mr (president) it was not a shameful day it was a very proud day for America, we have a representative republic if you havent realized and our representatives listened to their constituents, instead of king obama. for all of us who were giving up on America yesterday was a streak of light

  5. # 2 that is a lied. Polls may vari but even Fox news has a poll with 85% supporting the back ground checks. There are so many Quinnipiac, CBS , people poll , the list goes on and on. Please stop spreading false statements.

  6. Ms Candy Kane those polls dont mean squat. when Hitler stood up in front of his podium and asked, who wants a better, safer, strong Germany – EVERYONE cheered. 9months later everyone wanted it repealed but then it was to late – the dictator was in power.

  7. When the people vote in 2014, they will remember the Senators who voted against the will of the people. When the next massacre occurs due to a crazy person buying an assault weapon with a large magazine. The Senators will be remembered at the pols. The NRA will not save them. If you saw the fire power of the police and SWAT teams in Boston, do you really think you would have a chance against them if they came for you? It is a shameful day when politicians vote against the will of the people and for an organization that gives them money.
