EXCLUSIVE VIDEO: The project to reclaim some of the lost length of Lakewood Airport’s runway, has begun. Crews this week began the process of clearing utility poles at the Cedar Bridge Avenue end of the runway to allow about 500 feet of the runway to be recaptured – a project which will ultimately improve the Industrial park by allowing corporate jets to fly into Lakewood.
Lakewood’s Economic Development Director and Director of the Lakewood Airport Steven Reinman, together with the airport’s manager Mathew Applegate today met with TLS to discuss the renovations and what it means to the Industrial Park and to Lakewood in general.
In the exclusive video report, the officials detailed the much anticipated project which will not only be an asset to the businesses in the area, but will also attract more businesses and enhance the value of the Industrial Park.
The runway, says Reinman, is about 3,000 feet long, but has lost about 500-600 feet due to trees, poles and other obstructions which are now being removed to restore the full use of the runway.
Currently, the Lakewood Airport only allows for the Cessna-type air-crafts and the closest airport to allow for those smaller aircrafts, is Monmouth Executive. With the full use of the runway, the airport would be able to accomodate up to 15 passenger seat jets.
Another anticipated improvement soon to come to the airport, is a helipad. Near the helipad, the airport intends to provide parking spaces for corporate helicopters as well as spaces for craft-owners.
The Township also has longer term future plans to renovate the current airport terminal into a proper terminal with a restaurant and other amenities. TLS.
So one day I may be able to fly my corporate jet from work to home? Well, maybe we’ll get there onnnnne day, if they first begin lowering property taxes in our wonderful town.
now i can use my private jet
Smart move, but honestly of all the companies in industrial park, how many have executives that have or use corporate jets? Hopefully it will attract such companies, but I am not so optimistic.
Is the Lakewood control tower even up? I thought Obama would cut Lakewood’s funding due to the sequester. 😉
Will this create more noise in the Lakewood skies?
we dont want it !!!!!! planes are to close our homes and fly low
I don’t speak for anyone else but I don’t see how this helps Lakewood in the slightest. Unless they completely redo the whole airport to accommodate commercial aviation the whole thing is a waste of time and money
unless they have flights directly to brooklyn, I don’t see where this is beneficial to the community
To-Askan Wannabe- unless you live in the vicinity of the airport like directly in front of behind it the closest houses are off new hampshire ave or south of that. There are Military aircrafts that fly over all the time at minimum altitude and you can do nothing about that. They do training at 4 thousand feet or less depending on where they are flying to..These aircrafts from the airport are flying either north or south over warehouses and factories upon take off and landings..no houses in that area. Come on Really
Who is paying for this??
Kind of makes me wonder. I am in the industrial park a lot and I don’t see a whole lot of businesses that woudl be the type to have corporate jets flying in.
Was a true cost/ benefit analysis done? Or did someone just wake up one morning and decide it was a good idea.
its about time
#4 the answer is yes
look at the bright side no traffic lights needed for this !
Who is paying for this improvement- tax dollars? If that is the case- I DO NOT want it. My taxes are high enough!!! this is very upsetting!
If you want to correct the infrastructure of lakewood first fix the roads not from the air which will not be used in short term
Common
great idea !!!!
Great idea now the kids can take a corporate jet to all the schools in the industrial park.
