Inspection Department to Begin Looking Out For Tall Grass, Weeds Violations

The time of year has arrived when the Inspection Department will soon begin issuing summonses for overgrown lawns – which attract bugs and other creatures, says Inspection Department head Mike Sacamanno.

According to the enforcement policies set forth by the Department, grass and weeds which reach six inches or higher is in violation of the code.

Sacamanno says many notices are issued as a result of neighbors complaining of the overgrown lawns.

Homeowners in violation, will receive a notice before a summons is issued.

Fines could be $500, says Sacamanno.

  1. This is a disgrace to the citizens of Lakewood. We have over 100 squaters living in the forest causing massive amounts of pollution in our air in our water. The amount of trash blowing around there is disgusting. our tax dollars provide them with emergency care and trash pick up,yet you want to fine the hard working tax payers of this township because their grass is too high???

  2. Can they start issuing summonses for bikes and toys that only get put away once a year in our town? They’re all over the neighborhood the entire summer. Why is that less unsightly(and in many cases, dangerous) than 6 inches of grass?

  3. Cutting grass is good exercise,it is not hard work, makes your property look nice.Keeping things picked up also helps the way things look around your home. Maybe some people don’t care but if everyone has that attitude could you imagine what the neighborhoods would look like.

  4. My street should be expecting our annual summonses whether our grass is 6″ or 1″. They just come down and write everyone up without really looking. It’s getting to be a tradition around here. maybe we can declare it a holiday!

  5. its all about the money. we had at least 400 new houses go up in the past 3 years why is there a budget deficit? the boe and township should have received at least 4 million dollars!!!!!! why all these ticket blitzes fro the cops and township inspectors ???????

  6. The county says to plant “natural to the area” plants and flowers. That is what I have in my yards. I have dandelions which are edible and provide a food source. If you can grow corn, tomatoes, etc., than I can grow dandelions. I have grass that must grow high in order to go to seed and replenish itself. If I cut it then no seeds – hence no lawn. I also have miniature daisies which grow high and then flower. Why do I have to cut them before they flower?
