Jury Selection Date Set for Lakewood Cop-Killer’s 2nd Murder Trial

Jury Selection for the Lakewood Cop-killer’s second murder trial was set for June 4, 2013, Assistant Ocean County Assistant Prosecutor Michael Weatherstone tells TLS.

Jahmell Crockam, sentenced in March, 2012 to life in prison for killing Lakewood Police Officer Chris Matlosz, will be tried for the second murder he’s suspected of committing.

Crockam is accused of killing Justin Williams, 20, in October, 2010. Williams, also known as “Prodigy,” was found shot to death on Westwood Avenue in Lakewood, as first reported here. Crockam, along with co-defendant Darius Johnson, were indicted for the murder in May, 2011, and charged with conspiring to murder, unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for unlawful purposes.

The Trial could last about 6-8 weeks, the Assistant Prosecutor said.

Even if found innocent on the Williams murder, Crockam is to remian in prison for the rest of his life, with no chance of parole, for the murder of Officer Matlosz. [TLS]
