Township Honors Emergency Responders, Civilians for Heroic Lifesaving Acts

PHOTO: The Township Thursday evening recognized the heroic acts of professionals and civilians who recently saved the lives of two people close to death.

The first incident, reported by TLS here, occurred earlier this month when Police Officers raced to the scene of a basketball game where a young man suddenly collapsed and went into Cardiac Arrest. With frantic friends standing around and screaming, the Officers’ lifesaving measures – together with the later efforts from both EMS and Lakewood First Aid – brought the man back to life.

Yesterday, just hours before the Township Committee meeting, TLS reported about a man who fell off his bike on Clifton Avenue, and went into Cardiac Arrest. But a bystander, Refoel Ebstien – a Bachur in Yeshiva – quickly sprang into action and began administering CPR until First Responders arrived.

The heroes were each honored with a plaque by Committeeman and Emergency Liaison Meir Lichtenstien.(The plaques for the two civilian heroes from yesterday’s incident were not yet created.)

Committeeman Lichetnstien noted how at least one of the CPR saves coincidentally took place during this EMS Week. [TLS]
