VIDEO: Lakewood’s New Postmaster: My Goal Is No More Than 5 Minute Lines in Post Office

VIDEO: Lakewood’s new Postmaster addressed the Township Committee and the audience during Thursday evening’s Committee meeting.

During his short address, the Postmaster, Balvinder Singh-Minhas, offered to the public his committement to excellent service, and promised to resolve any issues customers may have.

Following his address, Committeeman Menashe Miller publicly asked the Postmaster to look into the lengthy lines at the main Post Office, which he says has had the same number –  three clerks – for decades, and that lines are sometimes out the door.

The Postmaster responded by saying he has added an additional clerk to the office, and that his goal is to minimize the wait time to no longer than five minutes. His response drew a round of applause from the crowd.

  1. I was at the post office yesterday and as I walked in I gave that sigh seeing the same typical somewhat long line, but there were three clerks on duty and I waited literally less then 2 minutes as they made anyone writing labels etc to move to the side to allow for the next person on line and they kept saying next on line. There was clearly a noticeable change for the better. Thank you Postmaster.

  2. Seriously? No more than five minute lines? Why even say such a thing? One person alone can take 15 minutes just because they are totally unprepared with their outgoing mail once they get up to the counter and require tons of assistance and advice.

  3. There should be a desk right when you come in where someone can tell each person what form they need .

The Current system is backwards. People wait 20 minutes on line just to get a form and wait again

  4. One thing for the life of mine that I cant understand, is, why don’t they get an automated self service mailing machine like the howell and brick post offices have????

Its very easy to use, and would free up the clerks for those that need them.

Please please look into this option.

    Thank you

  5. As a longtime Lakewood resident of over 40 years, half the problem with the delays at the post office is the customers have no idea what or how to do anything. They ask questions, have not filled out the proper forms and generally cause the postal clerks to have to literally do their paperwork for them. I go to Brick, no lines at the automated machines after hours. As far as an automated machine for Lakewood, the same issues would occur as with the clerks. Good luck Mr. Singh, its a tough neighborhood.

  6. Welcome Mr.postmaster. we wish you much success.
Here are some ideas to make the postoffice more profitable.

    A. More staff
    B. Just like they have in Jackson more mobile or flagship postoffice centers.in convient stores.
    C. Stamp machine
    D. Its a little frustrating when a local org. has a local mailing to pay more Not to have it travel to Trenton. I mean Lakewood -Trenton -Lakewood? Gee whiz what a waste if gas.
    E. But your mailcariers are the best
