Bais Yaakov of Western Monmouth County – Great Option for Lakewood Parents

[ADVERTORIAL] When meeting with Rabbi Sher, founder of the Bais Yaakov of Western Monmouth County, the revered Mashgiach of Bais Medrash Govoha, Rav Mattisyahu Salomon shlita, was greatly impressed with the warmth and academics of the school. “I don’t see any reason why this Bais Yaakov shouldn’t be a serious option for Lakewood parents looking for a school for their daughter” stated the Mashgiach.

The Bais Yaakov of Western Monmouth County has been growing beautifully since its founding two years ago. As they prepare to enter their third year, the need for a qualified and skilled Menaheles to take the helm of the school became evident. After an intense search, Mrs. Sara Liba Sonnenschein was chosen for the job.

Mrs. Sonnenschein comes to BYWMC with many years of experience in the Bais Yaakov education system. A native of New York, she graduated from Yeshiva of Brooklyn and Bais Yaakov Intensive Seminary and attended the Institute for Special Education of Sara Schenirer. She then taught for several years in the Ohel Moshe and Ohr Chaim yeshivos in New York, before relocating to Cleveland where her husband joined the local Kollel. In Cleveland, Mrs. Sonnenschein ably served for 13 years as a beloved teacher of many Limudei Kodesh subjects in Mosdos Ohr HaTorah – the local Bais Yaakov. In addition to her teaching, she was involved in running the school’s extra-curricular programs and activities.

Rabbi Yisroel Meir Rubinfeld, Executive School Consultant for Torah U’Mesorah, who has been a friend, advisor and member of the Va’ad Hachinuch for BYWMC since its planning stage, related that he was very impressed when he met Mrs. Sonnenschein. “I interviewed her for the Menaheles position,” Rabbi Rubinfeld said, “and was very pleased with her experience, knowledge and drive.”

“The hiring of a Menaheles,” continued Rabbi Rubinfeld, “is indicative of the school’s growth and its vision to change the face of the Western Monmouth County area. The goal of the Bais Yaakov has always been to follow the model set up by Sara Schenirer and provide a chinuch on par with that of any Bais Yaakov. The hiring of Mrs. Sonnenschein as Menaheles will help us achieve and maintain this goal.”

Relating her impressions of BYWMC, Mrs. Sonnenschein says, “It is really a very special place. The goal of the school is to provide an excellent Bais Yaakov education in an atmosphere where every girl feels loved and accepted. Every girl is treated as the special neshama she is. I feel that this is the way to cultivate the individual talents of every girl and help each girl reach her full potential. I am proud and excited to become a part of this unique Bais Yaakov.”

The Bais Yaakov was originally founded to service the girls from the Manalapan area. However, as its reputation grew, interest spread to surrounding areas as well. There currently are a number of girls enrolled in the Bais Yaakov from Lakewood, who are bused in every day to BYWMC. This year, several families from the Yeshiva of Staten Island Kolle have eagerly enrolled their daughters for the upcoming school year in BYWMC.

As the Bais Yaakov of Western Monmouth County continues to grow and thrive, we look forward to a glorious future of chinuch habanos for the next generation.

  1. Rabbi Veshnefsky, father in law of Rabbi Scher and Rov of Manalapan is a tzaddik and wotld class talmid chochem. Rabbi Scher is onre of the best people you will ever meet.

  2. An amazing school. One that says “your daughter is as important as anyone else and we will not reject her because her father wears a blue shirt, or davens at the wrong shul” If only ever school in town had the same loving attitude, what a breath of fresh air!

  3. Rabbi Sher is a very capable and talented person who is completely devoted to making this into a world class school for girls. May they see much hatzlacha!

  4. To observer,
Please explain yourself. Are you insinuating that lakewood girls should have to travel to school outside of lakewood? While I’m sure its a great school the shortage in lakewood is totally irrelevant to this post.

  5. BYWMC is an amazing school with a wonderful warm armosphere and great teachers. My daughter looks forward to going to school everyday!!! We are so proud to be sending our daughter to such a wonderful school!

  6. Maybe observer is just pointing out that we have a shortage of space here in town and this might be an option even if it means a little travel .So long as we dont have a communal entity that creates enough schools ,we might have to look at any available option . The shortage will only get worse every year .

  7. Just wondering after reading the article, the article stated that “the school was intended for girls from the Manalapan area but interest grew and now there are girls being bussed in from Lakewood ” … end quote…. I would like to know the name of the bus company that is transporting the students along with who and how said transportation is being paid for

  8. to #6 why dont you check out what # 8 said. its lokks he got the point, and it wasnt my idea. if you read the beginning of the article about what Harav Matisyahu said. i think he knows he says, he weighs every word. if he felt lakewood parents should look there. there must be a reason.

  9. Generally there most of Lakewood community is made of a certain types. At the same time there is shortage of place in schools in Lakewood even for these types. as of recent many people who don’t fit the Lakewood types have been moving to Lakewood , with an attitude of why don’t you want have place in your schools for us? why do you think your better than us?

This BYWMC is a very good school and now all types will have an option of where to go. they can go be mechazik this school and at the same time get a good education.

about the busing its not at all an excuse, it will take about 40 minutes to get there, and my children who are only 3 miles from their school takes 50 minutes because they are at the end of the route,

this is a win – win situation for all , except the few who really know they don’t belong and have a chip on their shoulder about it.
