VIDEO: Fire Fully Engulfs Home in Coventry Square; Families Left Homeless

VIDEO [UPDATED 3:15 AM] A home was completely destroyed and two others were severely damaged after a fire ripped through a Coventry Square home early this morning.

Shortly after 1 AM, Police and Firefighters responded to Governors Road for reports of a structure fire. Upon arrival, they found a home fully engulfed in flames.

All Lakewood’s Fire Companies responded, as well as Brick’s FAST Team, Lakewood EMS, Lakewood First Aid and Hatzolah.

The residents made it out without injury, and neighboring attached homes were avacuated as a precaution.

One neighbor tells TLS the homeowners from next door had just arrived home from a Chasunah when her kitchen began filing with smoke. She immediately grabbed her children and escaped from the home.

The fire – which shot thick black plumes of smoke into the air – was brought under control about half hour later, but several neighbors will be unable to move back into their homes due to the damage, police say.

The Fire Marshal’s Office and CIU are investigating the cause of the fire. [TLS-46/TLS-28/TLS-CCP]

  1. On the scene but police are not letting anyone near the scene – sources tell me at least 3 houses are burning, possibly 4.

  2. a mishpocha is a family,so that is what they are saying. If familes need a place to stay contact that person.
    sad what are you saying???????

  3. don’t assume someone else has already called the fire department, since most everyone has a cell you can call 9-1-1 and report the fire also. Even if you have a fire alarm that notifies a central station monitoring company, you should call 9-1-1 and advise them of the fire, what is on fire, if anyone is trapped, etc., or if it is a false alarm. This fire obviously was not reported during the incipient stage. Remember to change the batteries in your smoke and carbon monoxide alarms when the clocks get turned back of ahead. Don’t forget the one in your attic or basement. Carbon monoxide alarms go bad after 5 years (the date is on the back). Smoke alarms should be replaced after 10 years.
