TR Chief Warns of Continuing Phone Scam after 90 Year Old Woman Wires Over $11,000 To Fraudster

Toms River Police once again wants to warn residents of continuous phone scams. “Recently, a senior citizen was contacted by a person in California she thought was her cousin.

That person told the woman that he was in an accident and needed financial assistance that would require her to wire money to Mexico City,” says Chief Mastronardy.

“The 90 year old Toms River woman wired over $11,000 on various occasions to assist her family member. It was not until she received a routine call from the cousin that she realized she was victim of a scam.” [TLS]

  1. So, the lesson I’m learning from this story is that if someone calls you up and asks you to give them thousands of dollars (or really any amount), you should verify it before parting with all that money. I’ll definitely keep it in mind!
