Bike 4 Chai Breaks All-time Record: Raises over $2 Million

With still a week left to go, Bike 4 Chai’s 5th Annual 2-day Summer tour has raised a whopping $2,140,000, as 300 riders gear up for the charity bike tour.

The daring riders will bike from Asbury Park next up to Camp Simcha in Glen Spey, NY, all while bringing in funds to help children with severe illnesses.

In 2009, one biker – Dovid Egert – who enjoyed long bike rides made the trip to the camp in attempt to raise money for the camp, and raised $10,000 for the cause. But then, it went viral.

In 2010, Bike 4 Chai raised $200,000, with 40 riders. In 2011, with 150 riders, the non-profit organization raised $550,000.

Last year, the organization aimed for $1,000,000 with 200 riders, and brought in $1.8 million.

The 150 mile and 2 day trip will kick off this year on July 31, 2013..

  1. Chaim, you are wrong. Is it butyl Torah for someone to go around helping meshulachim collect money?! Obviously not! It’s chesed shei efsher al yidai acher, and there is no other way to raise this much money with spending less time! I would have to say you are the one falling for atzas hayeitzer.

  2. Way to go Yoli Margolese! Your leadership, and vision has helped this project become a super success! May HaShem bless you and may all the bikers be safe and healthy.

  4. Why in heavens name is this bitul torah? Chaim; wake up and smell the coffee! There is a world outside of Bnei Hayisheva whose every minute of non learning for needs to be debated. My husband is riding, I pushed him to ride – he is working and is koveia itim. This is a HEALTHY outlet, this makes him enthusiastic and energetic! I’m happy he’s doing it! And I think it’s great for all the other riders as well. Not everyone is going to spend their free time learning so they might as well do something enjoyable and kosher. It’s time to crawl out of the little hole you live in!
