VIDEO: A boater was rescued this evening after the boat he was in reportedly got a hole, causing it to sink.
Emergency personnel were called to Lake Carasaljo about 7:25 PM and upon arrival were told a man was hanging onto a tree after his private boat sank. Wearing a lifejacket, the boater managed to reach the trees standing deep between the seaweed, while he waited for help.
Within minutes, Lakewood First Aid Rescue Team member Ralph Lasry was on a jetski and raced to the scene.
Unable to see the boater through the brush and seaweed, Lasry reportedly called out for the man and was able to determine his exact location. After locating the boater, additional Rescue Team members were called in to assist with the rescue, and headed out with a kayak.
About 10 minutes later, the boater was rescued and brought back to shore on the back of the Rescue Team’s jetski.
The drenched boater was taken into a waiting ambulance and transported to KMC for observation. [TLS]
Great Job Larry!!
I’m so proud to live in this town (albeit the traffic. . .) with such great rescue workers. You all including Police, EMS, FD, and all the volunteer agency’s work with such great devotion and professionalism.
God Bless America!! God Bless Lakewood!!
If he was wearing a life jacket, what was the big problem?
I dont understand, is this lake dangerous? I always thought its no big deal, just swim to shore a few feet and hop out. I cant understand why we even need a whole rescue crew and equipment.
isn’t there an ordinance in Lakewood that makes using an inflatable illegal? They passed it about 10 years ago after someone drowned.
Thought blowup boats and raft were prohibited from the lake. There was an incident a few years back that caused the township to ban these devices???
joe your the best
Teamwork. Thank you all for your commitment!
BTW it was not a blow up raft, it was a canoe that got a whole from the trees in the water.
It’s not a dangerous lake as it is pretty shallow. But that doesn’t mean a person can’t need a rescue. So good job by the team.
“Great job Lasry!”
I guess as they say “All’s WELL that ends WELL” (or was it a LAKE?) 🙂
