Hit & Run Driver Apprehended after Striking Pedestrian

PHOTO: A pedestrian was struck and severely injured this evening by a hit and run driver – who was apprehended moments later, police say.

At about 10:45 p.m., the pedestrian was walking near the intersection of East 7th Street and Maple Avenue when he was struck by a vehicle. The driver then fled the scene.

The victim, an adult male, was transported by EMS to Jersey Shore Medical Center.

Hatzolah and Lakewood First Aid also responded to the scene.

Police tell TLS a witness followed the driver about two miles from the scene, enabling police to apprehend the driver.

The driver, 17, will be issued summonses, police say.

  1. there is no reason to arrest him as per the law , leaving the scene is just a ticket unless your drunk or someone is killed .. or that is my understanding of the law.

  2. I don’t find it ironic at all that a “Mr. Know It All” would not know it all. In fact, Mr. Know It All’s generally DO NOT know that much at all.

  3. yes it says “The driver, 17, will be issued summonses, police say”
they arrested him but he wasn’t charged for hit and run

  4. It’s not unusual to make the arrest but delay charging the perpetrator. Prosecutors often wait to decide what charges to bring; do they only charge with hit and run? Or perhaps DUI as well? Maybe also driving while license suspended, etc.
