PHOTOS: Suspicious Envelope Brought to Police HQ Prompts Response from Haz-Mat Team

PHOTOS: The Berkely Hazardous Materials (Haz-Mat) Team was summoned to the Township’s Municipal parking lot this afternoon to investigate a suspicious envelope.

The envelope was brought to the Police Heqdquarters at abour 4 PM by a resident who received the envelope in the mail and located an unknown substance inside, police say.

  1. And if we didn’t “waste” the resources and blew this call off and someone got hurt you’d be screaming negligence….. Think before you type!

  2. This event as well as every other weekly “bomb scare” is nothing more than paranoia!!! Nothing ever blew up in lakewood and nothing will. Sop the madness.

  3. Is there someone(s) who has a warped sense of humor who has been doing this on purpose? We have been having many false scares lately. Just this past Shabbos, Sunset Rd was closed off when everyone was coming out of shacharis because of a suitcase left in the park. Do you think some people are having fun at Lakewood’s expense?

  4. I am responding to some of the ridiculous comments I have read here by people who know absolutely nothing about emergency response and the state of affairs of the world at large right now. I speak only for myself and will not make statements that represent the the Township (City) of Lakewood. It is time to educate yourself regarding the economics and politics of our time. These events are not bomb scares. They are random events that occur in many places, and some may not be random at all. That’s the test we are put to with each occurrence of a suspicious package. The response plan is not paranoia, it is public safety. Let’s be safe rather than sorry. A detonation of an explosive device can occur anywhere, any time. Lakewood is no exception. I will not go into detail about the reasoning nor will I disclose any technical or tactical thoughts or information, but suffice it to say that our plan is in tact and it is well received by our community. The fact that some of you have gone public with your dissatisfaction regarding public safety is at best, disturbing.

  5. You are exceedingly more likely to drown in your bathtub, die as well as kill others by cell phone use, and many other daily events that can result in bodily harm.
The chance of any individual being harmed by terrorism is minuscule. Look it up. Golf and tennis are more dangerous.
We used to be The Home of the Brave….now we’re the Asylum of the Timid. C’mon, man up !!
