PHOTOS: Playground Fire Releases Large Plumes of Smoke

PHOTOS: Plumes of smoke seen for miles around the Westgate area and Jackson border, were caused by a playground fire, TLS has learned.

The fire started at about 6:50 p.m. at a home on Irene Court, officials say.

Multiple fire companies, as well as Hatzolah responded to the scene. There were no injuries.

The fire was knocked down moments after the Fire Department’s arrival.

The Fire Marshal’s Office was summoned to the scene to investigate the cause of the fire. [TLS-CCP/TLS-A.S./TLS-71]

  1. As I was on the phone, my daughter came running inside crying that she sees smoke. Finished the conversation and walked up the block with my 3 year old. Police cars galore. Hatzaloh and Chaverim and photographers are all in place AND THERE WERE NO SIGN OF ANY FIRE TRUCKS!!!!!!

  2. Since red is not bright enough to be seen which color is bright shall the fire dept change the fire trucks too? ( yes tax money shall be used for the paint). The FD tries to come running, but when there is a fire please call the fire dept and say there is a fire. Black smoke means fire! The fire dept in lakewood is helpful, so please stop the bad talk about them. It’s getting old.

  3. #1- I think you got your emergency vehicles mixed up!! Hatzolah and Chaverim vehicles were not on scene at Irene Ct!! If response time is on your mind maybe next time people should call 911 first before calling other NON fire dept organizations!! Also, don’t “finish ” your phone conversation and then decide to act…be more proactive and help your neighbors more efficiently next time

  4. Hey #1, maybe you should join, then you could show the LFD how to do the job properly. These lies have to stop. If you want a fully paid Fire Department just say so and don’t complain about your taxes.

  5. It takes driving time for the paid firefighters from Cedarbridge @ the stadium and from Monmouth ave to get to the Westgate area. We saw the first engine racing as fast as safely possible down Central ave.

  6. Why do so many have to go into attack and destroy mode? Maybe the trucks came a moment after the person submitted their comments? Where does all that pouncing on someone get you? It’s Elul

  7. The real test of response time is how fast the neighbors called the fire department or 911. If other organizations are called this slows fire department response time. Be glad that no buildings were damaged. Also how did a playground catch fire?

  8. From the time the fire was reported it was approximately 4:45 minutes for the first arriving apparatus to sign on location, and approximately 5 minutes for suppression activities to commence. The fire was under control in 7 minutes and determined to be extinguished in 10 minutes.

  9. Ignorant people keep running their mouths off about something they know nothing about and soon they’ll be extinguishing their own fires. I’d like to time that bucket brigade!
