VIDEO & PHOTOS: A fire at an apartment building left two apartments severely damaged and its residents displaced, officials say.
The fire at the Martin Luther King Drive apartment building was called in at about 6:10 p.m. and shot flames from the basement apartment and plumes of smoke into the upstairs apartment.
Officers who attempted to enter the building after receiving reports of a possible trapped person, were pushed back by thick smoke, officials say.
The General Alarm prompted the response from all of Lakewood’s fire companies, as well as mutual aid from neighboring townships.
The fire was brought under control in under 10 minutes, preventing the fire from spreading to other parts of the multi-family residence, Fire Chief De’lia tells TLS.
A couple of people were treated for some smoke inhalation, but otherwise there were no injuries, De’lia said.
The Red Cross was called in to assist the displaced families.
A cause of the fire is not yet known, De’lia says. The Fire Marshal’s Office responded to the scene for the investigation. [TLS-00/TLS-60/TLS-CCP]
Great Job Lakewood firefighters. Within 10 minutes this was under control. This could have been a monster fire the way fires can spread.
Go DOVID!
Good job by the whole fire dept. nice stop could have been a lot worse.
Wheres the offers of a place to stay for the families displaced? Are they not worthy enough?
Thank you #4
Not sure I understand, #4. Are there people from other locations or communities who do get offers of a place to stay after a fire?
#4 is inviting all who need to his/her house..
Yes these were victims of a fire…in the same neighborhood that a few weeks ago saw many arrests for major drug charges. I don’t know many who would open their homes to a potential mess like that…
Hey “humph” you condemn all that live there for the actions of a few?
