Driver Says He Was Charged Double for Transaction Twice at Local Gas Station

[RECEIPT] A driver tells TLS after filling up gas at a local gas station he was charged double for the transaction and two times. The driver submitted the attached receipt and had the following to say:

“They are double charging cards on diffrent days. They charged me $30 twice on seperate days and hit my debit card on same day twice for $75 (even if I filled up both of my cars I wouldn’t come near that).

I think you should post a warning, especially now before yom tov when people aren’t looking over their bills so carfully. I attached my debit card transaction.”

  1. These charges are only pending, gas stations will make an automatic hold on each transaction until in clears (in this case $75). This is to make sure there are sufficient funds on account. Once the charge goes through you will see the actual amount billed. This statement was probably taken off line.

  2. Or maybe it was something called a….. Wait for it……. A mistake

    Could that be possible

Why does everything have to become a big deal and assuming people are just ripping them off…

  3. Mr jumping too quickly. He didn’t write that someone’s tryng to rip him off. He’s writing it so people should be aware and pay attention to their receipts. Thank you for the heads up.

  4. This was done via a gift card. The company puts a Hold For a larger amount but then takes A few days to adjust itself. Call the credit/gift card company and they will t3ll u the same thing.

  5. number 8 , it doesnt explain the double charge for same amount on the same date . People assume they can swipe and go and not check their statements. I had this issue with a gas station in madison and the nine area. TLS is just giving you a heads up

  6. If you request “fill it up” they automatically set at $75. Just say $40 please and that’s the peak amount they will enter. Is kinda pointless not to mention gas station, and the writer implies getting ripped off.

  7. happens very often – so much so that when you go on line to contest a charge they have a box to click for duplicate charge, just go online and contest it

  8. the exact same thing happened to me, and no it was not a hold. Was actually charged and I had to call the credit card company to have it removed..

  9. Here is a scam I luckily caught in progress. I went to a gas station and asked the guy to put in $20 worth. He asked how I was paying. I said cash. Fine so far. I don’t know why I did, but when he signalled that he was done, I asked him for a receipt. I looked at the receipt and see that he actually only pumped $15 worth of gas. I pointed it out and he mumbled something about a mistake and looked extremely embarrassed. There is no question in my mind that he tried to rip me off. He gave me the $5 back.

Watch out for this one. They rely on the fact that with small cash purchases, people are not as careful to either watch the total on the pump or ask for a receipt.
