NJSP: Deer on the Move – Use Extra Caution While Driving

NJSP: We are beginning the rut, or deer mating season. That’s when deer will be more reckless than cautious. This time of year, car/deer crashes spike (forgive the pun, if you even get it), causing damage, injuries and loss of life.

Here are a few tips to help you avoid such tragic encounters:
– Be extra alert for deer crossing roads in the hours around dusk and dawn.
– If you see one deer cross ahead of you, slow down because there may be more following.
– Don’t swerve at higher speeds. You’re more likely to loose control than miss the deer. Apply your brakes.
– Don’t follow other vehicles too closely. Although this should always be your practice, your following distances should increase on rural roads during the hours that deer are most active.
– Wear your seatbelt because if you do crash, you’ll be much safer. And yes, it’s the law.

Back up your statement. A present is allowed to take a personal risk. It no one but the person himself if he doesn’t wear a seatbelt. If you disagree you don’t know the first thing about freedom.

  2. There is a difference between freedom and laws. That’s the problem with people in Lakewood, there are so many that like to break the law and do it their way Hope you are never in an accident that a seat belt could have saved you from being hurt Also there are those who piut children in cars without buckeling them in. That can be very dangerous.

  3. I’m referring only to an adult buckling himself. Not children or any others. Regarding a person buckling himself he should have the freedom to do it or not to do it & take a personal risk. Just because its the law doesn’t mean its right. I’m confident that law won’t stand up in us supreme ct. Trouble is no one is interested in fighting it.
