Pair Scamming Lakewood Residents Arrested With Assistance of LCSW

A man and woman allegedly scamming Lakewood residents for weeks now, was arrested this evening with the assistance of LCSW, TLS has learned.

At about 10 PM, LCSW received several phone calls about a suspicious pair – a black male and white female -asking people for money, claiming their vehicle broke down and needed money to fix it.

Police were called, but were reportedly unable to locate the pair.

However, an LCSW coordinator advised police that based on the numerous calls they’ve received about them over the past few weeks, the pair was indeed suspicious and suggested police send additional officers to locate them.

An LCSW member patrolling the area of South Lake Drive – the last given location of the pair – located the pair, and was in fact approached by them, the member relates to TLS.

After asking the member for money as well, the member – with knowledge about their apparent scam – offered to have their vehicle fixed at no charge. But they rejected the offer, claiming they needed the money.

Moments later, with the assistance of LCSW, police located the pair, and stopped them.

It turns out they had warrants out for their arrests, and were taken into custody. [TLS-46/TLS-28/118/TLS-CCP]

  1. Yup, the guy approached me a couple of weeks ago on motzei shabbos.
Insisted that his car broke down and begged and begged like crazy.
Full of lies. Preying on the good nature of the community.

  2. were they driving around in a white car? i saw a suspicious looking couple that fits that discription circling the albert area last shabbos in a white car.

  3. I met them at 7-11 they even started to cry to me telling me how nobody wanted to help them it really freaked me out they most definitely put up a good show I’m glad they’re off the streets.

  4. Has anyone stopped to think perhaps this was a better and less shameful option for them to beg for $$ than to reach out their hand and beg in the street ? Or go door to door ? What they did is no different. They were collecting for themselves- Not on behalf of an organization or school etc… no crime was committed lets put things in persoective here…

  5. i gave them 20 dollars motzei yom kippur when they stopped my car at valley and central!!! they looked serious and even gave me there number and promised to pay me back the next day when they pick up their car! wife claimed she was pregnant and mother was dying at kimball hospiutl. and they live near cranberry…..

  6. they will be out and back on the streets in no time if the warrant wasn’t for something serious…. scary. and I doo believe that collecting money deceitfully is against the law

  7. I exercise around carsaljo lake on a lake and the guy has come up to me a couple of times with the same story
I knew he was lying because I offered him a ride to kimball and he said no he needed money. And the second time he didn’t even remember he had already asked me already and he asked my dad and brother. Weird thinking he had a warrant out for his arrest
