CryptoLocker Crooks Launch New ‘Customer Service’ Website for Victims

cl tlsNow here’s a first — crooks who realize the importance of customer service. It’s the latest twist in the global CryptoLocker ransomware attack. This diabolically nasty malware locks up all of the victim’s personal files — and in some cases, backup files, too — with state-of-the-art encryption. The bad guys have the only decryption key and they demand $300 or two Bitcoins to get it.

“It’s been a disaster for many of the people hit with it,” said Lawrence Abrams who has been tracking the spread of this infection on BleepingComputer.com.

Within the past few days, the criminal gang behind CryptoLocker created a site for victims who need help making their required extortion payments. Read more on Today.

  1. It’s possible that these same crooks are so smart, that they created The Lakewood Scoop just to steal your identity. I’m not even going to click on the link, because I don’t really trust anyone anymore…..

But if TLS posts this comment, I guess it shows that you’re legit.

  2. My daughter got a new computer and just a couple of days later got a call from an Indian sounding guy claiming that something was wrong with her windows security, or something like that. He was so convincing, that she went thru the steps with him almost up to the point where he was able to gain control over her computer and get all her personal info. She quickly disconnected the internet, the phone, etc. and is having someone check her computer thoroughly for spyware, etc.

I have been told that this is a very common tactic used with new computer purchases. Somehow they gain access to the new buyer’s tel # and they are caught off guard. BEWARE and be suspicious…. Take a tel # to call back AND DON’T GIVE ANY INFO or do anything they tell you to do with your computer without checking with an expert.

  3. I got a call from some Indian saying he is calling about my Windows Computer. Whoever heard a computer being called a “windows” computer? I knew it was a scam, so I strung him along for a few minutes, playing my own game and then told him he was a scam. Of course he hung on me.

  4. Fyi, there is a software program available to block CryptoLocker encryption ransom-ware. It is called Malwarebytes Anti-Malware PRO. I’ve been using it for years and have only praise for the program.

The software program can likely be purchased with an online deal for approx $10. But even if you pay more, it is more than worth the cost!

  5. I received a call a while back from some indian. I played along for a while. Then I started yelling at him that he’s a scam. He took me to some site (that tls will obviously not post), that he claims is legit, but quite obviously is NOT.
