[GRAPHIC PHOTO] Officials say multiple deer have been struck and killed in Lakewood over the past few days, as breeding season peaks in New Jersey.
Many vehicles have been severely damaged as a result of either striking a deer or a deer darting into the vehicle. The animals are more prone to dart into traffic at dawn or dusk.
In one particular incident in Lakewood last week, a deer was struck by a vehicle, sending it flying over the vehicle and into the vehicle behind it.
The peak of the mating season in New Jersey occurs during November and December.
Here are a few tips to help you avoid such tragic encounters:
– Be extra alert for deer crossing roads in the hours around dusk and dawn.
– If you see one deer cross ahead of you, slow down because there may be more following.
– Don’t swerve at higher speeds. You’re more likely to lose control than miss the deer. Apply your brakes.
– Don’t follow other vehicles too closely. Although this should always be your practice, your following distances should increase on rural roads during the hours that deer are most active.
– Wear your seatbelt because if you do crash, you’ll be much safer. And yes, it’s the law.

you call that a graphic photo?
#1 – could be TLS meant to write ‘ traffic’ photo, as there are cars in background of the graphic photo…. I mean traffic photo.
If U hit a deer I believe you are required to call police, otherwise it is considered hit and run, can someone plz verify.
They should implement a law making it illegal to hit a deer of coarse we will put out the deer crossing signs like we have for the pedestrians. Then just like the pedestrians that dart out into traffic during dusk and dawn don’t get killed, the same thing will happen for the deer, they wont be killed. Problem solved!
Be extra cautious anywhere in the North Lake Drive area but especially between Cedar Row and Oak Knoll Drive.
my good friend pinny hit one on 9 and forest last week not fun stay safe
#1 & #2- graphic photo is actually a link that you click on. The photo is quite graphic- poor deer 🙁
At least the deer is not on a cell phone while its trying to get away from the forested areas being taken away.
I guess Lakewood deer get out of the freezer in November as opposed to Tu B’Shvat.

Is there anything to lose by reporting it?
I just saw 3 deers run across forest avenue and 11th street at 1.45 am. Maybe they want to be near the yeshiva!
The deer are not paying attention to the deer crossing signs
