The Jewish Educational Center will hold its inaugural memorial lecture in honor of Mrs. Chaya Newman, Bruriah High School’s former principal and world renowned educator, whose standards and techniques were copied in schools across the globe, will take place at the JEC’s Bruriah Campus this coming Saturday night, December 14, 2013 at 7:30 PM.
The lecture will feature keynote speaker, who is also renowned in her own right, Rebbetzin Esther Jungreis of Hineni, and she will speak on the topic “Turning Negatives into Positives”.
Approximately 400 JEC (primarily Bruriah) alumni, students, friends and community members from across a broad spectrum are expected to attend. Last year’s shloshim gathering after her passing brought over 400 people together as well as almost that many on a live internet hookup.
The event will also feature opening remarks by current Bruriah principal Rabbi Joseph Oratz, a special welcome for alumnae, “My Mother, My Teacher” featuring Mrs. Shlomis Peikes – my Newman’s daughter and associate principal at Bruriah, and a multimedia presentation honoring Mrs. Newman and her legacy.
Refreshments and a meet and greet with the Rebbetzin will follow. [TLS-PR]
UPDATE: Postponed due to anticipated inclement weather.
how I wish someone would compile Mrs Newman’s tips & techniques into a principal/teacher/mother’s guide. it would make our great mechanchos become even greater. Such a guide could fill pages and pages as she had so much to offer.
