Lakewood Police Captain Gregory Meyer tells TLS tthat as of about 10:30 AM there have been over 80 reports of accidents due to the unprecedented ice storm which hit Lakewood today.
“The list is massive,” says Captain Meyer.
The Captain says police handled over a dozen slip-and-fall accidents as well. Hatzolah has handled many storm-related injuries as well.
With the overwhelming amount of calls, police have also activated Lakewood’s OEM – utlilizing the services of both Chaveirim and LCSW to assist with calls.
Kimball Medical Center has been placed on divert besides for priority calls, Hatzolah says.
Multiple hilly roads have been shut.
Every ambulance in Lakewood is being utilized today, and many are going to the hospital via private vehicles.
The Township is attempting to salt the roads as quickly as possible.
Board of Education President Isaac Zlatkin says they have instructed drivers not to travel over5-10 MPH.
“The safety of the children is our priority,” says Zlatkin. [TLS]
why is everything nowadays “unprecedented” or “historic”? what is so special about this “ice storm”? we have never had this before?
Every town besides Lakewood, salts when there is a chance of ice. In lakewood why is it that they only start to salt after accidents? I think it is time that the lakewood township outsources the salting and plowing.
We don’t have ice storms like this every year or even every 10 years so maybe that’s why it’s called historic.
I have been driving for about 10 years (which I agree is not so long) but I never experienced this before
Maybe because this ice wasn’t predicted for this area
not enough taxes colected
Is my car insurance rates going to increase due to the many accidents in my neighborhood?
who is going to pay for that gabi ?
what other towns gabi? There were hundreds of accidents in New Jersey today, some of them fatal, east and west of Lakewood.
Gabi,You think they knew this was going to happen but didn’t do anything about it? It was a sudden occurrence that nobody could predict. Why don’t you do something to help out the cause, instead of sitting on the Internet telling the people of lakewood what the township should have done.
Thank-you to all the first responders who risk their lives everyday to keep our town safe and in order. And a special thanks to capt. Meyer for always going above and beyond the call of duty for our town!!!!
In the know dont know Jack…and johnny bravo FYI it was broadcasted on the 11pm news last night exactly what to expect in the a.m. the township likes bosses prefer to hope for the best rather then be proactive. Bottom line its cheaper!
I predict snow, ice, tornadoes, thunderstorms, floods and many more such weather related incidents. Better get prepared for the distant future NOWWWWWWWWW !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Right #2?
To # 2 Gabi
If they salted and it didn’t end up being icy everyone would complain that they are wasting taxpayers $$$$$$$. Its always a LOSE LOSE situation.
