We regret to inform you of the Petirah of Peretz Sontag Z”L, the missing father of 7 who was found dead a short time ago. The Monsey man, who was the subject of an intense search by hundreds of volunteers from New York and New Jersey, was reportedly found dead inside his vehicle in Harriman State Park – the last known location of him.
Mr. Sontag Z”L, 50, was reported missing about 10 days ago.
Sources tell TLS that Mr. Sontag Z”L was found by a hiker in an area of the park which was off-limits by park officials.
UPDATE: The Levaya will be taking place at 2:30 PM on Monday, at Helmans Chapel, 15 State Street, Spring Valley, NY. The Kevura will be in Eretz Yisroel.

I cry with tears as I write this upon the loss of another yid & a father of 9 all mourning their loss:
May his Neshama have an aliya & may his family be menachem among klal yisroel
He was one of the good guys..He will be missed by all
Boruch Dayan Haemes
how did he die?
Something is not right here. Found in the same area he was missing from 10 days ago, I speculate that fowl play is involved and he was returned to the place he went missing.
the area of the park is 64,000 acres… very easy to miss someone
(FOUL not FOWL)
Something very odd about the whole sitch
Most people don’t jut go off to secluded areas that are off limits and die. Yeshiois and nechamois to the family.
stop wondering “how”–wonder “why” and look to self-improvement as a yid –and just maybe we will be able to save all of our brothers from premature demise—we need to do t’shuva–that’s the answer
OMG. Obviously people don’t just do this. That is why everyone was searching for him. The rest of the story is actually none of your or anyone’s business. This is when sensitivity is called for.
May his blessed soul rest in peace. Amen.
Does anyone know his full name for mishnayos?
He was a good man with a big heart.
His father’s name was mendy – Peretz Yehuda ben Mendel a”h
The levaya for Peretz Yehuda Ben menachem Mendel will be iyh tomorrow at 230pm. Helmans chapel. 15 state street spring valley ny

I received this from an old classmate of mine who was Sontag’s neighbor in Israel.
Perez was my neighbor in Erez Yisrael for about ten years he was an unbelievable great person. A small story…..although we live in a very special neighborhood in Yerushalayim it was not very well kept….when Perez and his family moved here the entire family took out brooms and garbage bags to clean the streets of Yerushalayim! He felt Hashem ‘s palace had to be special and did something about it! We will miss him dearly…..
