The 7th annual Community Health Screening event for men will be taking place today. The screening includes testing for Cholesterol, Glucose, Blood Pressure, Heart Rate, Oxygen Saturation and Body Mass Index.
The event, coordinated by Hatzolah, Bikur Cholim and Chemed, in past years has attracted hundreds of men, many whom have discovered a medical condition they were previously unaware of.
The screening will take place at the CHEMED Auditorium, 1771 Madison Avenue, between the hours of 12PM-5:30PM.
The event is free, but there is a suggested $5 donation to help cover some of the expenses.
Esther Gerber or Chemed building. Double check.
Why only for men? I don’t think it’s fair not to have one for women too. I am willing to pay for it.
So go to your doctor and say “I’d like a checkup please”.
Maybe that’s not an option for her right now. Not everyone has proper insurance all the time.. That’s why these screenings are so be beneficial to the community.
P.S. Woman’s complaint is an old one.. I think every year someone posts that it’s not fair it’s only for men. I think one big answer is that women tend to be a lot more health conscious than men, and statistically see their doctor more regularly than men.
#2 – because we men have much more stress then most of you women out there. You may think its the reverse – but the reality is we have much more on our heads …. and I don’t mean on our heads literally because then you would come out on top.
Cool Masmid
is that why you say the bracha every morning ” thank god you didn’t make me a woman.” Stress is relative don’t be insulting. Perhaps next year they will have an all women event.
Because most women in the targeted age bracket (30-50) visit the obgyn often enough, the men on the other hand consider themselves healthy enough and never visit a doctor.
the fact is that most women from 20-45 are going to doctors anyway and from 50+ they go as well.
This is a perfect opportunity to check yourself for the most serious conditions that can lead to health problems down the line. It’s at chemed ( signs were in the Shuls this Shabbos) and you should spread the word to everyone. It’s a great community service. Thank you to all organizations that are involved!!!
I still think it is unfair to women. I am not in the age category that I see an Ob-Gyn, I don’t have insurance and I’d like to know where I stand healthwise.
mayb call the number on the ad. mayb they can help you
Woman is right. They DID have it for women one yr, I think Im not sure why they stopped. I would call Bikkur Cholim office & see if they can make a smaller one for women. Much lees women need it than men, tho. Thats for sure. Good Luck !!
Hopefully this will be a event with no strings attached. Would not be fair if chemed asks for people to sign up as patients at the clinic. why charge $5 if the event is sponsored by uncle sam.?
If you really can’t afford insurance maybe you should call someone about getting on Medicaid or Obamacare exchange. You will need to pay a fine if you don’t have insurance under the new law. Nowadays there really is no excuse not to have insurance.
Could be there is no public screening for women because which women wants to get screened in public??? (Even if it’s only a room full of other women)
it is not sponsored by Uncle Sam!!!. It is a joint venture between Hatzolah and Bikker Cholim, Just being held at Chemed
To answer some questions – first of all, it’s not sponsored by uncle sam.
It’s a joint venture between the 3 listed agencies.
2nd of all, I belive the main reason why there isn’t an event like for women is bec there aren’t women go volunteer – and with men volunteers for a women’s event, there would be a very small turnout.
If you have 15-20 women (medical professionals) willing to volunteer, call bikur and let them know. I’m sore they’ll be glad to work something out similar to this for women.
