Diet Coach Ezi Levi: Surviving and Thriving on Pesach

ezi leviAre you looking for some way to get through Yom Tov without tipping the scales and gaining those extra pounds? Well here is a common sense approach to eating over Pesach that won’t leave you feeling like you have missed out from all those Yom Tov goodies and will also keep the scale in check.

Remember, the more strict that you are, the better the results but these suggestions are for those looking to maintain their weight over Yom Tov and not necessarily lose weight.

For the Seder:
Obviously you need to eat what the Halacha requires, so when it comes to Shulchan Aruch , keep it to a minimum ( as I don’t suspect anyone is really that hungry anyway at that point).

For the rest of Yom Tov and Chol Hamoed :

1) You may have up to one whole matza per meal ( with whatever topping you out on the matza, if you do) but no more than that and less if you wish

2) Avoid potatoes as much as possible, and yes, I know that’s probably the hardest thing to do, but it will really help you- and of course I understand that there will be times where you just can’t avoid the potatoes – so do what you need to do while keeping in mind that the less potatoes that you eat the better.

3) Protein, salads and fruit :
Once you’ve had your matza keep to protein fans fruits and veggies – this will fill you up and it’s good for your digestion as well.

4)Allow yourself one “treat” per day- remember it’s about enjoying yourself and not feeling deprived while at the same time keeping things in balance and not overdoing it.

May we all be Zocheh to the Geula Shelaima B’karov!
