A vehicle left running with children inside on Clifton Avenue was carjacked last night, Detective Sergeant Greg Staffordsmith says.
Just before 10pm last night, Officers responded to a reported carjacking that took place on the 700 block of Clifton Avenue.
The victim, says Staffordsmith, left their Toyota Camry running with a 5 year old and one yeard old inside.
The suspect, who abandoned the car approximately four blocks later in the area of Third Street and Madison Avenue, fled the scene, Staffordsmith says.
Officer Michael Anderson located the vehicle with the children asleep inside unharmed.
The Lakewood Police Department Street Crimes Unit and the Ocean County Sheriff’s Department CIU and K-9 units are investigating. [TLS]
Hope they get the guys prints.
This story should serve as another reason never to leave children in a car alone.
Hmm…. I wonder if someone decided to teach the owner of the Camry a lesson not to leave kids unattended in the car.
Not the same as leaving your car in a civilized shopping mall at a civilized hour.
I would call this vehicle stolen with children inside, not carjacked with children inside. If I understand carjacked is a term for forcefully taking a car from the driver, usually at gunpoint.
Former Lakewood boy, I I agree w you!! I can’t agree with you more!!! This is kidnapped n stolen thank g-d they were sleeping
Dear bzuer, yes it is! Anyone who would do this is less intelligent than a “sechvi” so night or day doesn’t mattter. You never leave kids in the car period!
Parents should be ticketed
Just curious; When you guys all do dropoffs by babysitters with three kids in the car. Do you take all there kids out by every babysitter in a development in 20 degrees or 100 degrees in the summer?
Isaac: even if you leave the kids in the car, you gotta be ridiculous to leave the keys in
