The Oros Bais Yaakov school which had its application for a school in Jackson rejected by the Jackson Planning Board, was approved in Lakewood this evening for a new school. The girls high school plan was approved at this evening’s Planning Board meeting.
The new school, which will occupay a purchased warehouse on Rutgers Boulevard – in the Industrial Park, will not require any variances as it had in Jackson.
“There was nothng complicated about it,” a Board member told TLS.
All that was required for the approval was a ‘Change of Use/Site Plan Exemption’ to convert the existing industrial building into a school. [TLS]
This is pefect! Torah and Benei Torah will remain exactly where they belong – Lakewood!
If they had a property or possibility for a property in Lakewood why did they go through the hassle and aggravation to get approvals in Jackson?
I love to see Torah mosdos grow… And with the help of the Almighty there eventually won’t even be a shortage of schools in Lakewood anymore.
The school is approved for the Industrial Park. An industrial area is not a place for any school. What revenue will the school contribute to the community? Losing tax revenue will not sustain a community.
At one time, Lakewood’s Industrial Park was a model for the State of NJ.
Is this a temporary structure until they can move into a bigger structure? I would think it just barely meets their short term size requirements..
I don`t fee that it is correct for a BY school to be on a street called Rutgers University Blvd ich mein where do they think the girls will go from there?
What is the plan to make up the lost $65,000 in annual tax revenue for the township?

I’m happy it worked out this way, why would they want to build in Jackson a city that’s hostile to the project when the township is difficult to work with even for a normal project.

what about all the tremendous amount of revenue the township gains from all the families that now live in lakewood…… there should we a surplus in the budget. any complaints about loss of revenue for a school in industrial park is totally ridiculous.
Some cheap, easy math;
$65,000 loss of tax revenue / $5,000 (average tax amount) = 13 new houses
13 new houses need township services = not cheap.
13 new houses x 5 (average household amount of children) = 65 new students.
65 new students need busing = not cheap.
Just because you build more, doesn’t mean we have a “surplus” in the budget. The cost of township services go up as the population does, obviously. Meanwhile buildings in the industrial park pay enormous amounts of taxes, usually pay for private garbage pickup, don’t use nearly half of much township services and don’t use the school system at all. They also make jobs and bring more money into the town through their services.

10 bus drivers will have jobs

Schools only do good for society and bring blessing
The only issue I have with this is that the more schools that moves into industrial park the fewer business we have there, and that means LESS taxes for Lakewood – less money in the twp. pocket, and a lot less! and what happens then is the taxes go UP even higher on home owners.

The realty is that the boom is over the economy sucks and you have to go what works and schools work for everyone
People need to realize that every school that is built in the industrial park is a loss of tax revenue of at least $40,000 to over $100,000.
These business take no resources from the Township, they don’t even get garbage pickup. Whereas each house that is built, brings revenue, but also brings expenses, (garbage, school, busing, etc.).
As a Lakewood resident, with kids in private school, I can sympathize with the schools, but the industrial park is not the answer. Schools being built on industrial properties are costing the Township millions of dollars a year, enough to pay for courtesy busing.
Even an empty industrial building pays taxes. This needs to stop or Lakewood will become permanently bankrupt.
To number 14, schools are only good for society and bring blessing when they’re not exclusive to others…
The Industrial Park was built originally as an income of taxes because lakewood did not have enough income with residential properties. however since Lakewood has been growing by leaps and bounds in the residential areas which brings in much tax revenue it offsets the original purpose of the industrial park

I am sorry to disappoint you but if the Industrial park closed down ,your taxes would go through the roof . The residential taxes are nowhere near enough to keep up with the growth that we have . The additional expenses anually that come from our growth are way more than the additional taxes that the new houses bring in . And I am talking about just the school taxes.
Now it all makes sense! The school was to be built in Jackson to raise the Jackson taxes and not Lakewood’s. Already knowing this would be approved in Lakewood it was tried anyway, well cant wait to get my tax bill next year!
