An alleged drug dealer from Lakewood sent police on a wild chase before being apprehended, Toms River Police say. On June 20, Toms River Police units were conducting a surveillance operation in the area of the Red Roof Inn, now known as the TP Hotel, located at #2 West Water Street.
They observed what appeared to be a drug transaction take place in a silver Ford Focus. A motor vehicle stop was conducted approximately one block away.
During the investigation, a passenger, Victor Garcia, 28 of Lakewood fled on foot by jumping over a cement wall.
Patrolman Travis Seaman and Patrolman David Lazaro gave chase towards Huddy park at the corner of Main Street and Washington Street where they caught up to him.
“As they made attempts to apprehend him, Mr. Garcia jumped into the river and began to swim east,” police say. “Sgt. Ron Sermarini now arrived and made contact with a boat owner that was passing by. The helpful citizen allowed the officers to board his vessel. They approached Mr. Garcia, and once he was too tired to swim anymore, he surrendered and they pulled him onto the boat and arrested him.”
Back at the scene of the motor vehicle stop, Shaquille Cannon, 20, of Lakewood and Giana Raheb, 22 of Toms River were both placed under arrest.
Mr. Cannon was charged with Possession of 40 bags of heroin and intending to distribute it. Ms. Raheb was charged with Possession of Hypodermic Syringes and Mr. Garcia was charged with Obstructing the Administration of Law. Cannon remains in the Ocean County Jail on $20,000 bail. Raheb and Garcia were released on bail. [TLS]

Good Job Lakewood Police
#2 Police officers involved not from Lakewood. The picture is obviously Toms River PD
I am happy that drugs are taken off the street BUT why why why do thay have to chase him into the WATER which is dangerous.
To #4
Hmm, that’s an excellent question. Why indeed?
Oh! Maybe because he was fleeing the police and evading arrest by running that long block, and then by jumping into the river.
Now I get it
and yes I know its Toms River PD doing the pursuit in this case but LKPD do the same for “drug-dealers” Too many unsolved murders
wait till they make heroin legal
